See I wonder about this. I wonder if we focused so hard on that game that our season was just complete once we got the win. The guys would never admit it but it seemed like there was a massive (and understandable) sigh of relief as the clock hit zero.

I think there’s something to teams having a long pause between games as well but that’s no excuses.

The bottom line is although we made things look close statistically I never had much hope once we went down 14-0. Make no mistake that’s what an ass whipping looks like up front. We couldn’t protect Julian yet again and our DL was getting pushed around too. Miami was getting 3-4 yards every single play and their QB was breaking our backs in timely fashion too.

That was easily the worst game plan of the year from Matt Patricia. I’m not sure why we played so far off because how many easy first downs did we give up where a WR catches the ball 1 yard past the marker?

Offensively my main issue will be the pace of play. Why are we playing like 2023 Michigan? This is an offense that has thoroughbreds at the skill position so what the hell are we doing having 8 minute drives?

We’ve debated this before but I’m insistent that you don’t want less opportunities for Smith and Tate.

Sadly, it wasn't the first time Cristobal did that to him.

I should say to clarify I’ve been very fortunate as a fan to have seen three titles for my favorite sports team. So it’s not to slight having won it all last year.

My point was, all these 5 star WRs haven’t really won as much as you’d think over the last 7 years. 2 big ten titles and a natty but you have to think opportunities missed with the kind of kids we had at WR.

I’ll miss Carnell. I saw the latest projections have him outside the first round so who knows maybe he’s not done? But I’d imagine he’s onto the NFL now.

Difference is Tennessee had the same layoff.

Some keep using the word ‘embarrassed’. Why?
They lost a football game to a good team. They didn’t lose to Appalachian State and their coach isn’t in prison.

I think the layoff was a pretty big factor. It felt like it took them a half to get back to game speed. Second half they looked like a pretty different team and were dominating in stretches.

Well, I'm thankful for a new year (today) and much more.

I'm thankful for all the joy, pride and excitement the Buckeyes have brought into my life, and life of my family. OUr lives do not revolve around football, it's simply that we are fans, and it is something we enjoy.

I am looking forward to what this season brings. It looks to be a tougher schedule, which IMHO is much needed. Oregon, Indy, USC, Texas, Iowa will be tough games.

Will Sayin grow from this game and become a much better QB? Will the OL improve? Could St. Clair beat him out, is that a possibility? I'm not saying Julian isn't good, but will St. Clair have some things to say about who starts? Different and needed skill set? If Sayin learns valuable lessons from the last 2 games and improves off of this, he'd be hard to supplant IMHO.

Will ST become solid? How will the D do when we are losing some players?

The team needs improvement all around, and especially in the trenches.

Like I said, with all the coordinator shuffling and NFL defections the team suffered in the offseason, I'm honestly much more surprised they were as good as they were. I had them pegged for three or so losses but the team was MUCH better than I anticipated and the offense was super young all things considered. This felt more like an inexperienced team finally getting exposed rather than anything glaring save for the OL, which needs to be addressed post haste. The losses suck no doubt but honestly the team probably overachieved, weak schedule be damned.

I’m not giving Sayin a pass but he made many more plays than he didn’t. His confidence was hurt after IU. I’m usually not a sunshine guy but they should have shown him his great plays not just his mistakes. Julian out performed expectations for a RS freshman QB.

You’re thinking of Bubba Smith and, I don’t know who else. Joe Greene and Mike Webster didn’t go to MSU (and weren’t in college in 1965).

Well. Coach Day has a lot of work to do and it will ruffle feathers
1. he has to go outside to find a Matt Patricia OC…..not hand it to Bailey or Bowen like he would
2. he needs an OL developer….is LeCharles interested ?
3. There is no excuse to have horrible kicking….new PK and P. Malpractice actually
4. use the portal better - whiffed badly this year.
5. QB needs to be a threat to take off and get 5 yards when pocket collapses

Daughter is good. We’re getting the tow truck arranged to get her out of the ditch now.

Girlfriend was kept overnight for observation. They’re not sure yet what happened and I’m short on details still.

I think one big knock on the defense, that I'm also jealous of because OSU didn't utilize it, is the QB run on broken plays or you know just throwing the ball away to avoid sacks. Beck was able to extend multiple drives due to almost just "wanting it more" and taking off. Sayin had at 2 3rd downs I can remember where he could've run for less than 5yds and got a 1st down. There were also countless times I was screaming at my TV for Sayin to just throw the ball away and not get sacked. I think the experience gap between the QBs was on display. Beck kept his offense ahead, and not having to make hero throws to get 1st downs.

I'm pretty sure he can apply for Medical redshirt. And the NCAA is essentially neutered, so he could probably get it granted.
