2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

shouldn’t have JMU or Tulane either.

Ridiculous they’re in and Texas isn’t for example.

Force equity and this is what you’ll get. You’ll have teams that are superior on the sideline at the benefit of some half rate teams: Would Ole Miss prefer Tulane or Texas? Yeah we know that answer
Once JMU got in, it should have voided the Tulane entry.

Notre Dame (football only discussion)

For sure, they’re tied by $. But if it was purely a $ decision, Miami gets left out.
Personally, I was very surprised by the decision.
Not really. Once you assume that bama is in (and BYU lost their CCG) it comes down to ND or Miami. At that point the head-to-head is the primary deciding factor. Whether Miami or ND got left out was of little consequence to espn. All that mattered was bama getting in.

2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

When I was a kid in the 10970's my father worked as a contractor fixing up homes for realtors. The San Fernando valley was always a trip. His brother lived in Tarzana which was actually nice but the further inland you go it gets really seedy. There were sections of Ventura Blvd just over the hill from Hollywood that were nothing but porn theaters, peep shows and porn shops. To this day I can't believe that that existed. It was also when punk rock first hit the scene and you'd see the Mohawks and face piercing people. Strange days.

I know right?

@Thump mom has told me some stories....wow.

NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

In my book he’s always been the 10 carries at 2 yds per and then a couple big gainers.
Yeah he made me look like a real asshole last year. I always argued with my friends that he wasn't reliable because he's always trying to hit an 80 yarder when the situation only calls for like 5. The problem was he would hit those 80 yard runs almost weekly. I guess this is the football version of "live by the 3, die by the 3".

He's still a fucking stud, though. My initial analysis might have been slightly clouded by where he went to school just a little bit.

RB Lamar "Bo" Jackson (All B1G)

Defender closed pretty quickly and my thought was that Sayin was a little gun shy about interceptions. I didn't have a problem with him not throwing to Jackson, but I question why he didn't just run for the yard. He had two there, easy.
I was thinking the same, I wouldn't have wanted him to throw. But a pump fake could've frozen the defender and made him jump and Sayin gets an easy 1st down

Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Notre Dame got fucked hard.

ESPN successfully made the conversation "Does Miami or Notre Dame make the playoff?", as if Alabama already belonged, well before they got royally but fucked by Georgia. There should have been no conversation at all whether Miami or ND should have made it in, they both should have been in there.

ESPN campaigned all week against Notre Dame to get the committee to fuck them over in favor of Alabama. It was always about Bama making it in. The more horses the SEC has in the race, the more likely the SEC wins it all.

Fuck the SEC, fuck ESPN and I'm shocked so many fell for it. Notre Dame recognizd this and thought "Why the hell should we play in a bowl game where our fans will tune in and give ESPN mega ratings when they just fucked us over?" and are refusing to be cucked by Disney. And now ESPN is leading the charge that programs should be forced to play in a post-season exhibition game or be fined by the NCAA to try to force teams to do whatever they demand. Fuck them

The committee unfortunately played right into ESPN/SECs hands. I can't believe more of you don't see this for what it is.
This is correct, but I don't hear the domer AD going after the obvious villain here. He's going after the ACC, and that's why there's been such a backlash to his whining.

That was my take watching it live.

Cincinnati Reds (2026 Season Thread)

Gee,

$30MM a year for 5 years to a 32 year old DH

It's dumb spending first and foremost but also another example of how out of whack the spending limits are for teams. It's an extra year and 50MM more than the Pirates offered him. It's a number the Reds just can't possibly match.

He's the exact kind of player the Reds need and they were never for one minute going to be able to afford him.

They are going to have to do a hard core lock out in '27. This shit has to get fixed.

Make no mistake...the committee, and ESPN especially, are loving all of this. It's like the title of Eric Bischoff's book says "Controversy Creates Cash". They like years when someone gets fucked hard...like Florida State. And Notre Dame this year if you like. If all the teams lined up in a neat little row, who's going to watch the hours, days, and weeks of coverage leading into the playoff games? During the boring-assed game where James Madison gets beat 62-9, what are they going to talk about during the game? Their favorite color? No, the halftime show will begin with "We would be remiss if we didn't ask...how would Notre Dame fared against Oregon instead?" and the entire second half will be dedicated to that. Even ESPN execs know that no one beyond hardcore gamblers and about 674 alumni are going to watch the Trojan Condom Slid Over a Sylvania Light Bulb Rammed Up Your Ass Preparation H Bowl between a 6-6 team in the Mountain West and a 5-7 team from the Sun Belt. So how do they get clicks, eyes, and ad revenue? There has to be a prominent team fucked hard. There has to be heels. And Faces. And officiating controversy. It really is WWE-style entertainment, complete with bronzer assclowns who go on TV and say exactly what they're told to.

The bronzed ass clown is the key.

Mayor of CFBE.

That said, look at what Disney is getting right now; Brand name Bama/SEC is in everyone's mouth (they couldn't care less good or bad) because of the controversy people are furiously clicking for the two weeks before the game (media company will benefit from this in any number of revenue channels) they will tune in to watch (on the portfolio company network) because they are so pissed about the controversy.

This is apex predator level good at what they do stuff. I don't like it or dislike it but I sure as hell respect the strategy and business acumen.

Indiana Hoosiers (2025 National Champions)

Statistically, the game was equal. Don’t know how anyone can say we outplayed them. Result hinged on results in the opponents territory - they did slightly better than us.

Pretty much my take.

0-16 theoretical points on the table in those two red zone trips. Very small tail chance we consistently get 0 if you played this out 10,000 times but Saturday night, we took the bagel and lost by 3.

Variance.

Bama is part of their company. Miami and ND are not so the immediate tv eyeballs isn't really where you "follow the money" (imo).

If it was me, there was an understanding that my portfolio company (the SEC) would get a certain amount of slots (within limits of keeping up the appearance of relevancy) so my other portfolio company's (ESPN) televised tournament could give me, and my shareholders, two bites of the apple.

I'm not a tv rights/marketing guy though so not sure of the exact economics of it.

At the end of the day Disney owns ESPN. ESPN has a direct financial stake in the SEC. Disney is obligated to increase shareholder value. It is not obligated to meet some public threshold of "fair" (which it never implicitly promised). It's implied to be fair.

At it's original heart/core DNA Disney is in the business of selling fantasies to people (PG version). They are storytellers. Now, in business terms, it's a publicly owned media conglomerate but that's what they do. Their "why" is entertainment.

I can't believe people still get outraged about this tuff personally. It's being pissed off at a squirrel for climbing a tree.
