Clemson Tigers (official thread)

I think it is honestly.

Even the most sanctimonious will bend to reality eventually. I think he lacks the ability to conceptualize what his roster needs until it's far too late to catch up to everyone else.

Let's also remember, Clemson was at all-time high with him. They were eventually going to crash back down to Earth and return to their historical norm.
I think without NIL and the Portal, Clemson still has a very strong program, imo. Swinney shot his foot off by being unwilling to take in transfers and offer much in NIL. He's basically made himself fight battles with one arm tied behind his back. There was a time where Clemson raided GA, and had NC and SC locked down. When their NIL offer is the least of almost any major program, you see why they're losing players left and right.

I say sanctimonious because Swinney knows what he needs, but refuses to change. He can still target talent in the holes he needs, but he can no longer land those 4 and 5stars. For '25 and '26 alone Clemson has been out recruited by: UNC, Rutgers, Duke, Nebraska, Free Shoes and Wisconsin just to name a few. I don't think a HC who was considered top 3 in the sport at one time, now all of the sudden doesn't know how to build a roster. His refusal to change with the times, because he wants to play like he has a higher morality is the main reason why this decline was so inevitable.

See this is where I differ - I think he believes his strategy is right and isn't able to adapt to what's going on. I think he lacks the imagination to do it - unlike a Ryan Day who adapts on a yearly basis.

I also think this is guy they've struggled so much once Venebles left too. He hasn't been able to adapt to what he has and instead is continually chasing trying to find the next Venebles to run the defense.

It kind of sounds like we’re saying the same thing but in different ways. You’re saying it’s his lack of imagination to adapt to the times and I think it’s him wanting to run his program “the right way”/sanctimonious. Regardless hes been very stubborn and it’s going to cost him his job. He had such success that the admin and boosters expect Clemson to be OSU
