2028 NJ OL Eytan D’oleo (Verbal Offer)

Stack up enough OL cordwood, and in two-three years, hopefully someone stands out. Not a terribly unique plan, and when it works, great. When it doesn't, need a QB that can scramble. Also seems like the apparent OL studs visit tOSU, hear their pitch, and compare with what other schools have (to give?), and go elsewhere. Just may be me, but don't see the best OL guys in the portal, and if are, don't sign with tOSU.
Its all relative, in what deems is the "best OL guys in the Portal". Guys like Josh Simmons, Philip Daniels and Seth McLaughlin weren't considered the best in their Portal classes, but they worked out great for the Buckeyes. And the best guys are relative to the needs, because none of the sites know how to rank transfers. And they're left ranking them based off either what they just did at a school or what their HS ranking was. Of all position groups, OL is the biggest crapshoot of them all, in the Portal and with HS recruits

Deciding When to Retire

I decided to retire the first time I realized I'd been working for 60 years. I was 68 in 2010. The wife wanted me to keep working. yeah, right.
I stayed on 1/2 day for about a month to get the new guy settled. and havent worked since.
Buckeye games, Fishing, pitchin Horseshoes, frosty cold ones, debauchery with the wife, active in the American Legion.
Now I'm 84 in July and down pretty much to the frosty cold ones lol.
Advice: work to 68 or till you want to. then enjoy the rest of your life because when you join the elderly there's usually a steep drop off.
And oh yeah....... DON'T GET OLD!

What is your exercise routine?

LOL AT DEETY IN HEAVEN... One of the last "deety" posts.
I rush forward, imitate an attacking bear, run into the office, run into the bedroom, hide in the bathroom, run around the kitchen island, hide in a closet, rush forward and backward and jump side to side, and flail around a 20 lb. grocery bag while shouting, "Swingies! Swingies!"

Sometimes the cats even join me.

Game Thread tOSU at Texas, Sat. Sept 12, 7:30 pm ET, ABC

One thing you can bet on, UT will have the best team money can buy. Whether they perform like that, kinda up in the air. PS, seem to recollect that tOSU was in the 'hunt' for Brandon Baker, but got outbid by the Longhorns. Anyone know definitively how well he's doing? Or is it a 'whew' that he went to Texas (a la Felix Ojo)? Anyway, I get a bang out of seeing which 'next best things' that was/were going to tOSU find out who cratered, and contrarywise, cringe when look at the pre-season mags and see someone tOSU went after on the ratings lists.....

A second-year offensive lineman who has played in 21 career games with 13 starts.

FRESHMAN (2024)

Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 20 Straight B1G Titles)

BUCKEYE TENNIS IS ELITE. Only one school in the country has both its men’s and women’s tennis in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, and that school is Ohio State.
Login to view embedded media The Ohio State men, seeded third in the NCAA Tournament, will face No. 6 seed TCU in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Thursday after beating Buffalo, California and Illinois in the first three rounds of the 64-team tournament. If the Buckeyes beat the Horned Frogs, they’ll advance to the Final Four of the NCAA men’s tennis tournament for the fourth time in five years.

The Buckeye women, also seeded No. 3 overall, are in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2017 and just the third time in program history. They’ll be seeking to earn their second semifinal berth ever when they face No. 11 seed Pepperdine in their quarterfinal match at 1 p.m. Friday.

Both the men’s and women’s NCAA tennis tournaments are being played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia. The semifinals for both genders are set for Saturday, while the championship matches will be played Sunday.

Deciding When to Retire

It definitely is a shitshow. I'm planning on taking the leap next year at 46 and the insurance is the only part that really might fuck it up. As long as the ACA is around, I should be in pretty good shape, but if that gets scrapped.....who knows?
My hat is off if you're doing it at 46. Congrats. The ACA genie is out of the lamp. I don't know how they try to put her back in without a huge catastrophe.

Deciding When to Retire

Exactly. Keeping the income to basically zero between now (55 yrs) and when the healthcare benefits hit is key. FWIW, my wife has been working with a guy who consults on people who are in our situation to help them find the right plans because, apparently like the rest of the healthcare and insurance industries... it's fucking stupid broken. If anyone is in the same sitch... let me know, I'll gladly share.

Should semipro/college players be paid, or allowed to sell their stuff? (NIL and Revenue Sharing)

On the contrary, amending your rules to match your descent into the abyss is maybe rational?

Yeah, I guess on a certain level it is.

Maybe not in terms of survival but in terms of what is real inside the NCAA's bubble, this kind of thing probably does make a lot of sense.

Like a Titanic officers meeting to discuss the sever lack of dress code discipline since the news of the iceberg hit. You just cannot operate a ship with unpolished buttons on uniforms.

Deciding When to Retire

1000% right. At least 5 years worth in post-tax or Roth accounts so you have money to survive on while you setup a Roth-conversion ladder to free up some additional traditional retirement funds penalty-free. And ideally enough in those post-tax accounts that you can keep your income low enough to qualify for the ACA subsidies for health insurance.

Home Repairs/HoneyDo List/Advice & Tips/etc.

decided to not replace the whole shed, have decided that I can fix what is there - me that does the work is not happy with me that makes the decisions, me can be a real asshole sometimes. that being said, shed siding replacement is happening as soon as baseball season is over in about 2 weeks. i'm debating on taking a few days off work to get it done, or just do one side per weekend for a month, idk

Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

Ohio State has not yet announced when it will wear the uniforms, which it will pair with its standard home scarlet and away white uniforms. Ohio State is expected to bring the gray sleeve stripes back to all of its uniforms in 2026, a source told Eleven Warriors, though Monday’s announcement only confirmed that the gray sleeve stripes will be used on the all-black uniforms.

I think it’s cool the other sports have gotten involved with adding the stripes to their uniforms and helmets (lacrosse, baseball, hockey, wrestling).

But they better not put this uniform on some noon game against a Wisconsin type team.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around just how out of touch with reality the NCAA is.

The subject of organizational entropy should never be taught anywhere without using them as a case study.

It's incredible.
