I think the standard is Bo and Isaiah last year. They started or played a lot but struggled to pass block and break big runs. Clearly, though, they put in the work and were trusted. Hell, Boyd and CHJr are already getting a ton of snaps, so there’s no question Bey would be out there if they thought he was ready.

I think it just didn't work for Fox.

Portnoy's only thing he seems to have is trolling Day and OSU, which probably pissed off OSU, and they flexed some muscle. Protecting one's image this day and age is huge.

It over all probably wasn't landing and it was a easy business decision for Fox.

It was inevitable that I ask why Fox would put him on air. They had a fairly decent product and decided to FAFO. The above is exactly how I reconciled it.

The networks’ (ESPN & FOX) poor decisions regarding on-air talent have directly impacted what I do before games. I used to do Game Day and then did Fox up until they had what’s his face… now I just turn on the game a couple of minutes before the kick. I get better analysis on YouTube and here.

I suspect I’m not the only one who has that or a similar story.

NBC used its top pick on this week’s “White Out” game between Penn State and USC, and NBC is already scheduled to air Notre Dame’s home game against Miami in its 7:30 p.m. slot on Nov. 7.

The Big Ten’s biggest game of the season is officially set for Big Noon Kickoff.
The Big Ten announced Monday that next week’s Big Ten Championship Game rematch between Ohio State and Indiana, the last two national champions in college football, will kick off at noon and will be televised by FOX.

Seven weeks into the season, it’ll already be the third Big Noon game of the season for both teams. Ohio State’s September games against Kent State and Illinois were both noon games on FOX. Indiana’s season opener against North Texas was a noon game on FOX, and its road game at Nebraska this Saturday will be as well.
Given that FOX had the first three selections in the Big Ten television networks’ draft, and that FOX airs its national network game at noon each week, it would have been stunning if Ohio State vs. Indiana was anything but a Big Noon game. Next week’s game is the most anticipated home game in Indiana football history, and it was always expected to be one of the games of the year in the Big Ten, especially with the history of Indiana beating Ohio State in last year’s conference championship game.

I feel like the play against Illinois, where he broke 2 tackles and ran for the first down, was the turning point of his career. He has had as good or better accuracy than any tOSU QB I can remember, but trusting his legs to get a big first down rather than punting and living to fight another series will be huge for this team. We needed to see the fire of, I"m going to put this team on my back and keep this series going, and we have seen that over the past 2 weeks.

What do you even say about Ohio State special teams at this point? Hopes of the unit not being a raging dumpster fire for the umpteenth consecutive season were high after Day hired an actual special teams coach - with some prior success, no less - to come in and right that ship.

Through five games, that ship is still largely taking on water.

My favorite play yesterday had to be a punt from the OSU 45 all the way to the... Iowa 22. A 33-yard punt from midfield with no rush to disrupt the kick. Joe McGuire doesn't have enough punts to qualify for the CFB stats leaderboard but his average of 41.3 would slot about 58th right now.

The OSU punt team also got flagged for 12 men on the field (or maybe it was a false start) before a McGuire attempt.

Placekicker Connor Hawkins hasn't been bad for Ohio State, connecting on 5-of-7 field goal tries and both misses have from from 40+ yards but it doesn't feel like a coincidence the two misses came in OSU's two biggest games so far. His doink on a 40-yarder yesterday came with some pressure as the Buckeyes led 10-6 in the second quarter.

On punt return, an Iowa punt landed at the 17 and rolled to the 2 after the Hawkeyes purposely took a delay of game to give Boston Everitt more room to work with. Flawless execution.

I'm sure other bad stuff happened but I'm tired of thinking about it.

I really wish the press would dig into (or at least try to) and report on the approach to and process by which Ohio State coaches special teams, most specifically the kickers (what drills do they do, how is their practice time organized, etc ...). Discher actually has a pretty strong special teams resume, but he comes here and the results are still crappy. Maybe some sort of exorcism is needed.
