Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

yes CBA = Collective Bargaining Agreement It gives the worker a voice in what rights they give away in return for whatever benefits they bargain for. To have one, they must be an employee and a union member as I understand basic labor law.

People wanting to restrict movement of college football players as the market stands right now are advocating disregarding basic concepts of labor law.

Put the word "coal miner" in for college football player.
-A group of mine owners gets together and decides that paying so much for labor is bad for business
-They buy some politicians
-The politicians come up with a scheme, in the best interest of the miners themselves of course, to restrict movement/income.

That's collusion and that's been settled since the late 19th century. You can't do this shit to people.

It makes zero difference what the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL or whoever else do. They have the employee/employer structure, unions and a CBA. College football does not. The players are just individual contributors, like coal miner, that get to choose which mine they work for and are free to change mines as often as they please if the money is better at another mine.
Totally agree with your points and appreciate the dumbing down for an old pecker wood, like me.

The biggest question for me is where does the 'Letter of Intent' come into play? Does that not constitute a work contract between the athlete and the institution when they sign it?

RB Lamar "Bo" Jackson (All B1G)

Don't have any problem with the projection, but cannot really see three Buckeyes splitting votes, with one of them being Heisman winner. Most teams bemoan having two players in the running, let alone three. Don't get me wrong, would love to see it, but the law of large numbers kinda implies that won't happen. Especially with last year Heisman finalist, and the 'best player' in college football. That's pretty tall cotton....

How's the weather?

It's called 'lack of water'. Back then, plenty of snow, which was stored in the Sierra Mountains. When warm weather came, snows melted and ergo the rivers ran high. Able to be stored, and used. Not so much today. The 5 is full of dried up trees, stone fruit, nuts whatever, because the farms west of the 99 don't have enough water allocation. It was very pretty, once upon a time. California would rather spend tens of billions on a train from Bakersfield to Merced (ps, not a single rail of track laid to date), instead of dams to hold that water for sustained release. And older timers than I have told tales of boats that sailed down the middle of the state from San Francisco, on the waterways.

Cincinnati Reds (2026 Season Thread)

They signed the 1st round pick for $5MM.

A scouting blurb in case you think I was just ranting on draft day (bolds are mine):
Cincinnati believes in the huge upside for Justin Lebron. He’s got plus power potential, plus speed, plus defense, and a plus arm. The questions about his game revolve around his ability to identify and hit breaking balls.
But wait, it gets better...
When asked about some of those concerns, Reds scouting director Joe Katuska had this to say about Lebron after the draft:

We believe in our development. We believe in his physical ability. We think he can make the adjustments necessary moving forward. The makeup. The grind that he has to him. He’s ready for this. He knows he has to make adjustments and make corrections moving forward and we think he’s fully prepared to.
During his final year at Alabama Justin Lebron had 27 walks and 56 strikeouts. Among 1st round college players taken that was easily the worst strikeout-to-walk ratio among the 14 hitters. 10 of the 14 had at least as many walks as strikeouts in their junior years, with several having more for their entire college careers. Two others were reasonably close. Two players weren’t. Lebron was one of them and the other guy had significantly more walks, but also a handful more strikeouts.
