2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

The only thing that was bad was the replay referee saying, "the call stands." What a cop-out. He should have said, "the call is confirmed with replay." They even had a post on their page showing that it was the correct call.
They're just like the pathetic Miami fans, who once shown that the call was spot-on, can't seem to reconcile the fact. Their small reptilian brains just aren't developed enough ....

DC Matt Patricia (Official Thread)

Well so far it seems like Patricia is a willing and quite capable recruiter, and reports are good so far on his coaching. We'll have to see how it plays out on the field but I will be happy to eat crow doubting this hire.
I could be fairly entertained if he should happen to restart the pick six university tradition against Penn State and maybe have his defense outscore their offense ...

Honestly, I kinda sell it WAS a bad spot. Makes it hurt that much more. :)

'24 IL PF Morez Johnson (Illinois Verbal)

Just sayin': He was in the transfer portal and Ohio State did recruit him again; however, he commited to scUM.

Michigan basketball lands Illinois big man Morez Johnson Jr. in transfer portal

The Michigan basketball program has landed its second big fish from the transfer portal in as many days.

Morez Johnson Jr., a 6-foot-9, 225-pound freshman from Illinois has committed to the Wolverines, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Free Press on condition on anonymity because it's not official. Johnson averaged seven points and 6.7 rebounds last season for the Illini and was incredibly efficient around the rim, shooting 64.2% on the season in 17 minutes per night.

It's now the second major acquisition for Dusty May and company in the portal in as many days, after they landed former five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau from North Carolina on Monday. Johnson reportedly also had offers from Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio State and others.

Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

I just read on the Penn State forums that Zack Ryder has hit the portal. They mad…bigly. They bigly big mad. He was projected to be their replacement for Starocci. After Welsh committed to Penn State, Starocci sent out a tweet, “Zack Ryder all day baby” then deleted it. But…at the end of the day, their omniscient, walk on water, lord and savior Cael Sanderson made it so and so it was good. Maybe we swap wrestlers, but he probably goes to Okie State like Facundo did.
Would be nice to pull it off, that would be a huge addition. Not sure what the odds are though. I'm going to miss seeing Rocco in an OSU singlet though, he was an absolute brute force and so enjoyable to watch.

WR Emeka Egbuka (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Ohio State football: Will Howard believes Emeka Egbuka will be special in the NFL

While talking on a podcast, Will Howard says that Emeka Egbuka will be a great player in the NFL.

The Ohio State football player team went on a massive run at the end of the season. Their four-game run was one of the best four-game runs in the history of college football. The Buckeyes were able to take down Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame en route to the national title.

Will Howard was a big reason why the Buckeyes were able to win those games and win the title. He was putting the ball in a perfect spot for the receivers to catch passes. He was at his best when the Buckeyes needed him to be his best. Emeka Egbuka was at his best, too.

Egbuka caught some huge passes for the Buckeyes over the course of the season. He had some big touchdowns, including a deep pass against Oregon that took the top off the defense. Howard had some very good things to say about Egbuka on a recent podcast appearance.

While appearing on the Adan Schefter Podcast, Howard sang Egbuka's praises, saying that he will be a great player in the NFL with whatever team decides to draft him.

Egbuka is one of those guys who is a borderline first-round pick. He has been trying to increase his draft stock with a good Combine and Pro Day performance. It remains to be seen if he did enough in order to get that draft pick, but we will see what happens on draft day.

2025 Spring Practices, Spring Game, and other Tidbits

What to expect from the Ohio State football Spring Game

Now that Ryan Day is calling it a Spring Game, here's what you can expect to see.

images%2FImagnImages%2Fmmsport%2F151%2F01jqxyjtzy54s2wm3d4e.jpg

The Ohio State football team will have a Spring Game this season. There was a question as to whether or not the Buckeyes were going to have that coming into the year. It was something that Ryan Day wouldn't commit to for quite a while. he wanted to give himself an out in case there were injuries.

Now that he has confirmed that there will be a Spring Game, the fans will get a chance to see this year's version of the team as they head to the Shoe. It won't be a showcase, which likely would have entailed more seven-on-seven as opposed actual football being played.

So now that we know that there going to be more of a traditional game being played this season, what should fans expect from the game? What should fans watch closely during the Spring Game that could give them some insight as to what the depth chart will look like this Fall?

What Ohio State football fans can expect from the Spring Game

If you're expecting to figure out who the starting quarterback is going to be, you will be disappointed. Day won't officially name a starter until the Fall. While it likely will be Julian Sayin, he has to show more consistency in order to earn the right to be the starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Fans can expect to learn what kind of defense the Buckeyes will be running. Matt Patricia hasn't told the media what his base defense will be under him. Under Jim Knowles, they ran a 4-2-5. Patricia has the reputation of running multiple defenses, so it will be interesting to see what he comes out to start the Spring Game with.

After losing so many starters from last year’s national title team, there are going to be some growing pains at spots for Ohio State in 2025.

We are a little more than a week away from Ohio State’s spring practices wrapping up with the “spring showcase” at Ohio Stadium next Saturday. With a few weeks of practices under their belt, we are starting to get a better idea of what the starting lineup might look like when the Buckeyes welcome Texas to Columbus at the end of August for the season opener for both teams.

While there are a few positions that are rock solid, such as the wide receiver group with Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and others, there are other positions that there will be plenty of questions about throughout the spring and summer. Today we are going to look at three positions that still feel pretty fragile.

Luckily there is still almost five months before the season kicks off, so any positional questions have plenty of time to put in work ahead of the Texas game.

Defensive tackle

Eddrick Houston and Kayden McDonald figure to be the starters at defensive tackle for the 2025 season, replacing Tyleik Williams and Ty Hamilton. Houston and McDonald were the only defensive tackles currently on the roster to play at least 100 snaps last year, so at least they aren’t going into this season totally green.

What is worrisome about the defensive tackle position is the lack of depth. It’s not that Ohio State doesn’t have bodies that can play at defensive tackle, they just don’t have players that have much college playing experience behind the projected starters.

The Buckeyes took a hit at defensive tackle when Hero Kanu entered the transfer portal. Had Kanu stuck around for another season in Columbus, he likely would have been battling to be a starter this season. Now Ryan Day, Matt Patricia, and Larry Johnson might have to look at the transfer portal following the spring showcase to try and add a little more depth to the position.

Even though there won’t be any top tier talent in the portal, Ohio State doesn’t necessarily need someone who can step right in and start. What they will need is someone who can add to the depth at the position, since the expanded playoff will grind on the offensive and defensive lines, so the deepest teams will find the most success.

Running back

If we’re being honest, there are going to be questions when you lose two running backs like TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins. At least Ryan Day dipped into the transfer portal and brought in West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson to add some experience to the position.

Donaldson ran for over 700 yards and 11 touchdowns in each of the last two seasons for the Mountaineers. At nearly 240 pounds, Donaldson is more of a bruising running back who will wear on defenses with his physical running style.

Likely to split carries with Donaldson this season is James Peoples, who is more of the “lightning” side of the pair. Peoples saw time on the field late in games last year when the Buckeyes had established big leads. The San Antonio native ran for 197 yards and two touchdowns on 49 carries. Rumblings from spring practices are that Peoples has made big strides so far in the offseason, looking the part of a starter in the backfield for Ohio State.

The main concern at the position is the unknown. Not only have we not seen much of Peoples at running back, who really knows how Donaldson is going to transition to the bright lights at Ohio State after suiting up for a mediocre West Virginia squad over the last couple years. If either of these running backs don’t work out, there is even more inexperience on the depth chart in Bo Jackson, Sam Williams-Dixon, and Isaiah West.

Strong safety

Obviously it is going to sting losing a player like Lathan Ransom. Luckily for the Buckeyes they have Caleb Downs at free safety on a defense that could see three safeties on the field at times. Malik Hartford has seen time on the field during his career but Jaylen McClain seems like a more natural fit to start at strong safety. Behind McClain on the depth chart are Faheem Delane and Keenan Nelson Jr.

What is most concerning here is much like at defensive tackle and running back when it comes to inexperience not only at starter, but also with the rest of the depth chart at the position. McClain saw some limited playing time last year, while Delane is a true freshman, and Nelson didn’t register any snaps last season.

If necessary, Hartford could probably slide over to strong safety from his free safety position, but that’s probably something the coaching staff would try and avoid if necessary.

The presence of Downs at safety can help to alleviate some of the worries about the inexperience at strong safety. What we don’t know is how defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is going to use Downs in the defense, so things could look different from what we saw in how Jim Knowles used Downs.

Even though it would be nice to have Ransom on the roster for another year, these are the types of problems teams in college football often face, with them being even more frequent these days with the transfer portal.

2026 FL S Simeon Caldwell is a Buckeye!!!

Welcome aboard Simeon! Really like this pickup for a number of reasons, but the ability to slide down to LB is a plus because if Womack gets onboard, then we'll sort out where everyone lands. Really quality player and seems like a smart kid, pumped he went with the Buckeyes. Side note - seems like Patricia might be good at recruiting...I had some doubts but they might have been unfounded.
