Ex-Stanford Coach Troy Taylor Sues ESPN for Defamation

Taylor, who was fired after a pair of 3–9 seasons, alleges that ESPN articles about his workplace conduct led to his firing this spring.

Former Stanford football coach Troy Taylor is suing ESPN and its reporter for defamation, claiming the outlet knowingly published false information about him in a March story that led to his firing.

The complaint, filed Wednesday in the Northern District of California, centers says ESPN and reporter Xuan Thai “intentionally twisted the facts to advance a particular narrative and made (and repeated) patently false statements about Taylor for the purpose of harming his reputation and pressuring Stanford to fire him.” Spokespeople for ESPN and Stanford declined to comment, while Thai did not immediately respond.

A lawyer for Taylor told the Sacramento Bee that ESPN “repeatedly made false statements about the investigatory findings to paint Troy as a misogynistic bully” and that they filed the suit so Taylor could return to coaching.

ESPN published the story, headlined “Reports find Stanford’s Taylor bullied, belittled female staffers” written by Thai on March 19, and Stanford fired Taylor six days later. (He also went 3–9 in both of his seasons on The Farm.)

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments - NCAA: no wins taken away, no postseason ban

premierdrum: 6 hours ago
Good morning from the last day of band camp.
Bylaw requires that charged parties are notified prior to public release, but doesn't specify how much advance notice is required.
Typical cases involve disclosure to charged parties the day prior. However, should the COI have reason to believe the parties might leak the decision, that advance notice could be minimized to hours or even less. That sort of flexibility could come into play with this.
We have a little ad hoc group chat going of connected folks sniffing for smoke. There's no reason thus far to believe that we're in the notification window, but we've known since Monday that UM has been expecting that notification at any point.

Just sayin': Anybody else wonder what went on at his "band camp"?

Nothing is happening today. We would know. Notice of a press conference would have been given.

Remember when the pedster sanctions were made public, they had enough advance notice that the dorms had organized watch parties.
As did a kid holed up in his office deep in Penn St country.....fist pumping away.

Wait.
