2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

What tCun has done is between 10 times and 100 times worse, but when comparisons like that list are done, I just don’t want tOSU’s transgressions to be ignored or denied, so we’re not in the ‘our shit doesn’t stink’ aspect of their delusional fans.

Thank you.

Just like Harbaugh, Tressel had NCAA rules (at the time) broken under his watch.
Just like Harbaugh, Tressel lied to the NCAA about it.

Unlike the Harbaugh situation, once it got past the football facility OSU University leadership stepped in, played the role of adult and put an end to the bullshit. They did not allow football to put University resources at risk.

tsun, on the other hand, doubled the fuck down...SEC/old SWC style which ultimately puts the University mission at risk because of liabilities arising from this lack of leadership.

I continue to beat the drum pointing out that a University's mission and a pro sport entity's mission can be adjacent strategies but they cannot ever be core to each other. Education is the only thing that can lift the human condition in the long run. They should be plentiful and successful to reach the most lives possible. They should never be put at risk for professional sports.

As we witness this move to professionalism, don't wax nostalgic for the good old days that never really were. Embrace the new reality shedding more light on the misalignment and push anyway you can for the pro football teams to be split free from the Universities. It will be better for everyone.

This is what has truly blown my mind about this whole thing - the cheating is what it is; a failing coach was backed into a corner decided he couldn't get the job done on the level and decided to cut corners to win. That's bad, really bad, but the fire could have been contained. Instead, the most snooty school in the country did everything it could to conceal, obfuscate, and generally just be pains in the asses about it from the very top of the university proving themselves to not only be the type football factory they always turned their noses up at, but the very worst kind. That high horse they've climbed up in for decades has been burnt to ashes.
Ono is obviously a corrupt and terrible university President, but what I think allowed him to play this all out for so long is that tsun has a dysfunctional, rotten culture that simply can't conceive of themselves as ever being wrong...ever being the bad guy...ever not being superior to everyone else. They are image obsessed in a way that I don't think any other school in the country comes close to. They're not just obsessed with their image but actually deeply believe their manufactured self-image. Even when it was apparent that Ono wasn't up to the job and had completely fucked up the response to the football scandal, they reacted by giving him some ridiculous extension and raise. They couldn't look in the mirror and admit that they screwed up in hiring that clown; they doubled down on him. Same dynamic was in play when they just couldn't do what any other school in the country (even SEC schools) would have done with Juwan or the hockey coach.

It really was the perfect storm of that culture and a weird jock-sniffing President being in office when an imbecilic football coach decided to go on a three year cheating spree. Harbaugh's gone. Ono's gone. Their football program is about to be nuked by the NCAA. Yet, I really believe that none of it will change the culture up there. It's just too ingrained into who they are. They're incapable of any real introspection and learning from what's happened.

Sorry, but besides that there’s no natty to take away for that, besides the likely 2012 one that they didn’t get to play for, what punishment hasn’t already been levied for a far less significant underlying offense?

Associate HC/DL Coach Larry Johnson Sr. (National Champion)

Along the above lines, saw that the DC offered a DL/DT saying 'we should have offered you sooner'. Certainly that could be a throw-away line, designed to get tOSU into the forefront of his recruiting, but maybe, more ominously, it's a foretelling of what's to come with LJsr. Also merely conjecture by me at this point, but who truly knows.

WR Carnell Tate (National Champion)

Recollect that Larry Bird was interviewed before the Celtics took on the Lakers in the NBA finals. He said that it wasn't about how he matched up with Magic, but how the fourth and fifth men matched up that would make the difference. Am agreeing, that when J. Smith goes against their first line CB, and then Tate against their 2nd line CB, that leaves Inniss, and tOSU's fourth/fifth receiver to go against the opponent's fourth/fifth CBs. Ultimately, tOSU's WRs are deeper and better, and so there will be mis-matches, and hopefully big gainers. Ergo, would expect that maybe excepting for the big powers, no one can field a pair of corners that are elite, and yeah, Tate will have a big season. Wild card will be, does tOSU have a QB that can consistently make the throws to those WRs? Guess we'll see soon enough. Here's hoping....

But unfortunately we also need an asterisk for “didn’t report stuff after getting 2 emails from a lawyer”.

DB Devin Sanchez (Official Thread)

I’m typically hesitant to think true freshmen will get meaningful PT but Sanchez is a top tier elite talent that I feel could truly force his way onto the field. Whether that’s slot, some combo of slot and boundary — or what. If he’s consistent in fall camp I’d subscribe to the notion that Lorenzo Styles has a really short leash - which is why I feel like he ultimately ends up at safety anyway to get the best corners on the field but I’m getting ahead of myself and making stupid assumptions because it’s May.
