Disagree. The best way to run out the clock is to keep the ball and the best way to keep the ball is get a first down. Do whatever is going to work to make that happen.
It’s different if there are 2 minutes left, but with 5 minutes to go in a 2-score game, I have no problem with them being aggressive there. Especially on a low-risk pass like that.
I think both… I’m a bit tired of hearing about they’re trying to see what we have on defense by trying new things.
That’s what the offseason is for and the defense had to go against one of the best offenses all offseason. There’s no reason to not know what your best is.
There’s a happy medium with shorter, easier passes. Also, in that situation, even getting stuffed still burns clock and won’t leave a long 4th down. Finally, they seems able to run short yardage against the 3-3-5 a lot better than they do against an even front.
Good news is that this was a pretty great performance from the offense. Only reason they didn't score in the 3rd is because they literally couldn't on the field. Defense was pretty yikes today though.
