My grandfather had a small rundown farm in Gore, Ohio. I loved the grands, but they did seem to live rather primitively when compared to Columbus. One day, I was about 6 years old and walking toward him when I heard a rattler start its shaker. Grandpa held up both hands to say, stand still. He reached down into the weeds, grabbed the rattler by the tail, and snapped it like a bullwhip, the head coming off in this one movement.
