Cincinnati Reds (2026 Season Thread)

So 24-22 at about the quarter pole of the season. Things I think I see:

Run Creation:
This is the "unluckiest" team in baseball. They actually draw walks well (6th/10.4%), They do strike out a lot still (26th/23.9%) BUT they are showing decent power (ISO 7th/.165). So how do you then have only a .311 team OBP? You pair that with a team BABIP of .267 which is good for 30th in MLB. At the end of the day when adjusted for ball park they are 23rd in wRC+ with a 94.

At the end of the day they are 13th in Runs scored which is the ultimate result of all of it, the underlying elements would seem to suggest there is a little more in the tank if the bounces start balancing out but all in all the offense is average and isn't likely to be more than that on a consistent basis.

Run Prevention:

Staring Pitchers:
They walk way too many guys (24th/3.75 BB/9) and don't strike out anyone (28th/6.81 K/9) so when you look at what many consider the quick litmus test of "talent" in a pitcher or group of them the Reds starters are 29th in MLB in K-bb% at a laughably pathetic 7.8% (Rockies are last at 7.2%, league best is 19.2%). So as one would expect of any staff that hasn't seen it's top two starters all year. They are not overpowering. So those are some of the basic components, the on field results so far are 24th in ERA- which is about what you'd expect given the underlying numbers. In traditional counting stats you see them 20th in Runs allowed so no big discrepancy there. Burns obviously has some arm talent, the rest are doing it with smoke and mirrors.

Bullpen:
Woof

Dead fucking last in BB/9 so how many guys they strike out doesn't even really matter. You just can't walk that many, that often, as a reliever and not get punished for it. 26th in ERA- and 26th in Runs a allowed would seem to bear that out.

Defense:
I'll just go with the Fielding Bible, Defensive Runs saved and it's a -2 as a team, good for 21st in MLB.

So all in all you have a
C- kind of offense,
a C- starting 5 that could maybe be a solid B with some health and
a D- to F bullpen that has a
C- to D+ defense behind them.

This is not a .500 team folks. FanGraphs has them at 55-61 the rest of the way and I would agree with something in that range. There is just nothing above average to point to. They are average at best to flat out to bad in every component of the game.

Maybe the offense gets a little better and maybe the starters get a little better with Greene and Blister Bitch but even if you get all that, I doubt it's enough to over come the shit bullpen and the shit defense.

I hate them so much

Game Thread tOSU at Texas, Sat. Sept 12, 7:30 pm ET, ABC

Texas receiver shows awful moves a few months ahead of huge showdown with Ohio State

This video is worse than the one that Brandon Inniss had a few weeks ago.

images%2FImagnImages%2Fmmsport%2F151%2F01krvcm6j7t28b5ckx89.jpg

Over each of the last two seasons, the Ohio State football team has taken down Texas. In 2024, it was in the Cotton Bowl, which propelled them towards winning the national championship. Last season, the Buckeyes took down the Longhorns at home in the Shoe in the season opener.

This year, the Ohio State Buckeyes travel down to Austin in Week 2. Both teams will get a warm-up game in Week 1 before this massive clash. These are two of the best teams in the country again, so this game will certainly have College Football Playoff implications.

In the offseason, Texas added Cam Coleman from the Transfer Portal. The former Auburn wide receiver was viewed as one of the best prospects in the portal. The newest Longhorn recently had a workout that was videotaped. If this is any indication of how he's going to play, Ohio State is going to be very happy.

Cam Coleman's offseason workout should make Ohio State fans happy

In several of the clips, Coleman looks like his shoes are stuck in mud. He looks slow as he starts each route. What makes matters worse is that he doesn't have any defense playing against him.

Ohio State receiver Brandon Inniss received some criticism for a similar video that came out with his offseason work. However, it's pretty clear that Coleman's tape is much worse than what Inniss put out. Coleman is supposed to be an elite talent. Inniss has never been better than a third option.

If this is how Coleman is going to play when these two teams meet in September, Ohio State fans are going to be ecstatic. Ohio State is replacing a couple of starting cornerbacks, so a slower Coleman would certainly help the defense in that big matchup.

Texas fans have been touting his arrival as something that can help take the team to the next level. Now, fans are piling on him about looking slow. A few months ahead of the biggest matchup for Texas in the non-conference portion of the schedule, this looks bad.

2027 FL DL Wyatt Smith is a Buckeye!!!

Ohio State football predicted to land a major recruiting win with an NFL bloodline over multiple major college programs

Ohio State needs some good news on the recruiting trail with spring commitments happening left and right. Latest news has the Buckeyes on the ropes of a big time addition for Matt Patricia’s defense.

Larry Johnson predicted to land a real difference maker for Ohio State in 2027

Steam is picking up for Ohio State to be the school four-star St. Thomas Aquinas EDGE Wyatt Smith commits to. Smith has picked up several predictions from both On3 and 247 Sports recently to pick Ohio State over Missouri, Nebraska, Indiana, and Notre Dame amongst others. Smith is the son of former Cincinnati Bengals and San Franco 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith, who was a five-time Pro Bowler.

The 2027 EDGE is listed at 6-foot-6, 235 pounds and is the No. 11 player at the position, per 247 Sports Composite. Coach Johnson is leading the charge in Smith’s recruitment and it’s playing a large part in Ohio State being a top school since they offered him in March.

Five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs is the headliner of the class for the Buckeyes and Smith would be an excellent running mate to pair with. Landing a top 100 player would give the Buckeyes a nice boost on the trail and a decision is expected to be made rather soon.

Ohio State has had good luck recruiting at St. Thomas Aquinas over the years with Joey Bosa and Nick Bosa being the most popular. Damon Arnette is another notable name from STA and Smith could be the next in line for the Buckeyes as a key part of the 2027 class.
Based on his Dad alone, yes please

2026 World Cup (Official Thread)

Granted, I wasnt going to watch it anyways, but I'm so grateful that Chicago is missing out on being part of this shitshow. Only good part of the world cup is if the English fans lay waste to some host city.

Detroit should be perma host for all England games. Play the motherfucker in the Big House for the cosmic win.

The thought of a drunken/high/violent mob of English soccer fans laying waste to Ann Arbor warms me way down in the frozen parts of my soul.

Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 20 Straight B1G Titles)

Just sayin': And then there were 2. Kudos to both UVA and UT. They both lost the doubles point; however, they both fought back to win the match and advance to the Finals. To accomplish this they both had a dominate "ace" in the #1 game (i.e. UVA had #1 ranked Dylan Dietrich and UT had #3 ranked Sebastian Gorzny) who pulled out wins.

Division I Team Championship
  • The Final: No. 4 Virginia vs. No. 2 Texas
  • Date & Time: Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET
  • Location: Dan Magill Tennis Complex, Athens, GA (Hosted by the University of Georgia)
  • How to Watch: Stream the matches live on ESPN+
How They Reached the Final
  • Virginia: Reached the championship after completing a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over the top-seeded Wake Forest in the semifinals.
  • Texas: Advanced to the final by overcoming a 3-2 deficit to defeat the No. 6 seed TCU 4-3 in their semifinal matchup

Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby/Preakness/Belmont)

Just sayin': The "Horse From U.N.C.L.E." wins The Preakness.....

Napoleon Solo wins 151st Preakness Stakes

260516-preakness-ww-1623-28e210.avif

The horse, trained by Chad Summers, entered with 7-1 odds.

For all its history and tradition, the Preakness was expected to have a different feel this year. Golden Tempo, the Kentucky Derby winner, and Renegade, the Derby runner-up, were not slated to run the race. This was only the second time in 40 years that the top two Derby finishers had sat out.

The race was also being held at Laurel Park, in Laurel, Maryland, as Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course continues to undergo renovations. A field with no head-and-shoulders favorite? On a new track? Anything could happen.

Napoleon Solo, a horse that entered with 7-1 odds and had finished fifth in his last two races, won the Preakness on Saturday, overtaking the favorite Taj Mahal down the stretch while also holding off another strong contender, Iron Honor.

For Napoleon Solo’s trainer Chad Summers, this was his first Triple Crown win. “To come here with a horse that Mr. Gold allowed me to pick out for $40,000 and get the job done on a stage like this, it’s just unbelievable,” Summers said on the NBC telecast afterward, referring to Al Gold, the horse’s owner.

Iron Honor took second while Chip Honcho finished third.

2026 World Cup (Official Thread)

United States 2026 World Cup Preview: Golden Generation Eyes American History

The U.S. made a round of 16 exit the last time it hosted the World Cup, but this time, it has the superstar talent to mount a more impressive run—if the team plays to its potential.

images%2FvoltaxMediaLibrary%2Fmmsport%2Fsi%2F01krbfeqe46310vcajvf.jpg

Arguably the most talented U.S. men’s national team of all time arrives to the World Cup stage desperate to put on a show on home soil.

The Stars and Stripes might have automatically qualified for this summer’s tournament as hosts, but it more than earned the right to compete alongside the top 48 teams in the world. Oozing with talent and rejuvenated under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino, the USMNT hope to pull off a storybook run in front of home crowds across the country.

Having never won a World Cup, the “golden generation” of American soccer players, led by AC Milan standout Christian Pulisic, kicks off its mighty quest on June 12 at SoFi Stadium, where a statement performance could set the tone for the host nation.

World Cup Schedule
Fixture Date Venue
USMNT vs. Paraguay Friday, June 12 SoFI Stadium
USMNT vs. Australia Friday, June 19 Lumen Field
Türkiye vs. USMNT Thursday, June 25 SoFI Stadium

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino

images%2FvoltaxMediaLibrary%2Fmmsport%2Fsi%2F01kg892ydysthn53njcx.jpg

  • World Cup experience: Managerial debut
  • Time in charge of the team: Since 2024
  • Manager meter: Under pressure
Mauricio Pochettino’s résumé at club level is as impressive as it is extensive, but managing the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and PSG is nothing like taking over an underwhelming USMNT side with the threat of a looming World Cup on home soil.

Even the Argentine’s best tactics might not be enough to get a team of individuals up to the level needed to succeed this summer, especially given the competitive nature of Group D.

And Finally ...

  • Vibe Check: Hopeful
  • Who USMNT Doesn't Want to Face: Mexico
  • One Stat That Defines USMNT: Just four clean sheets in the last 19 matches played points to ongoing inconsistency
  • If Things Go Wrong: Blame will fall on Pochettino for failing to get the best out of the country’s golden generation
  • What Will Everyone Say If the USMNT Goes Out Early? America embarrassed at the biggest World Cup ever

2027 IL TE Brady Johnson (Northwestern Verbal)

Ohio State is going after a Big Ten opponent’s key recruit that is set to play college football with the son of Ryan Day

Ryan Day’s son recently committed to play football at a Big Ten program. Now, the Ohio State Buckeyes are trying to flip one of RJ Day’s future targets.

Ohio State is after a future teammate of RJ Day to try to pull off a flip

The Buckeyes’ coaching staff has been busy on the road recruiting and recently made a stop in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and offered a Northwestern commitment. Ohio State has extended an offer to 2027 three-star TE Brady Johnson, who has been committed to Northwestern since Feb. 4.

Asked if he would take an official visit to Ohio State, Johnson said, “As of right now, I think so. I am fully committed to Northwestern still though,” via Rivals.

Ohio State tight ends guru Keenan Bailey recently visited Johnson at home home and he clearly has the attention of the 6-foot-3, 220-pound tight end.

“I love him as a coach,” Johnson said, via Rivals. “He is a highly intelligent and energetic coach that hammers down on the little things. He expects the most out of his players and that they will give him the most back. He is someone you definitely want to play for as he gives everything he has to make you and the team better.”

Ohio State has plenty of work with the class of 2027 to get done with just 11 commitments at this time. The Buckeyes are still in search of their first tight end commitment for the class, so it makes sense that they’re turning up the heat on Johnson.
