HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Lanning and their staff did a great job with the gameplan. He outcoached Day. He has also won nothing as of yet.

I'm not sure that's true, though. Especially in a game where your already beat up offense loses MHJr. and doesn't even get the benefit of a 1st and goal. Losing your 2nd best player and having the refs step in and overturn a penalty was the turning point in that game. Day didn't lose the lead in a vacuum. OSU hasn't been lucky in these games. Great coaches overcome that, but Day also isn't the reason they're losing. There's a big difference between blowing it, and struggling to find a way to win 1 possession games.

More importantly, Day didn't have the benefit of an even playing field against Michigan to make up for other failures. People will say one thing, but a lot of fans will hold those losses against him forever, regardless of what comes from the investigation, as well as the narratives that insecure Buckeye fans picked up from Michigan coaches and players running their mouths.

Look, I'm not in the Fire Day camp yet, although my confidence is almost used up. That being said, there's almost no context where blowing a 4th Q double digit lead is acceptable. Especially in a game of that magnitude. If you're good enough to have a substantial lead in the 4th, you're good enough to finish it off. Just didn't.

Additionally, Day completely botched the end of that game, settling for a 50 something yarder when the Bucks should have absolutely tried to get more yardage. That has nothing to do with Marv being hurt. The Georgia game might actually be the most egregious individual effort when we're talking about Days big game struggles.

Agree to disagree, but most of what you mentioned just sounds like bad excuses to me. Oh well, I have a feeling we'll know everything we need to know about Day at the end of the season, for better or for worse.

Ivan Njegovan stands out in a crowd.
Well, stands above a crowd might be a more accurate descriptor for the 7-foot-1 Croatian center Jake Diebler spent his final scholarship on for his first Ohio State basketball roster in 2024-25. It's not just his height that separates him, however, it's also his ability to shoot and pass like few other humans of his stature can.
"I love Ivan's skill," Diebler said. "Obviously, as you guys see, he's big and his size is legit. And I think as he's adjusting more and more to the pace we're playing at — which has been different for him but he's picking it up — I think we're going to continue to see his opportunity grow."

Njegovan enters with professional basketball experience playing in Croatia's top league, the Favbet Premijer liga. The 20-year-old offers a unique athletic profile that could be honed into something special with a full four years of eligibility to work with at Ohio State — and his story differentiates him too.
"I took basketball more seriously when I was almost 16," Njegovan told Eleven Warriors at Ohio State's basketball media day on Oct. 8. "That's when I came to (Under-19) Zadar, a bigger club than my hometown club. (My) first two years I wasn't shooting much there, but then at one point I started to practice a little bit with the senior team. I was playing with the second team and first team at the same time, so I would stay after practice with the coach, shoot a little bit. And that's when they saw I can shoot."

Ivan Njegovan (pronounced ee-vahn nyeh-go-vahn) grew up in Otacac, Croatia, which has a population of less than 10,000 people. Even though he'd always loved the game, that didn't offer him a chance to dedicate himself fully to basketball.
His goal growing up, he said, was to go to a good school in Croatia. Then Zadar called.
"I was playing for my hometown club – and it's a really small town," Njegovan said. "There is not as much of an interest (in basketball) there with other kids. I always liked basketball, I always wanted to play, but being there it's not easy to go somewhere (to play).
"Then – out of nowhere, literally – I got an opportunity to come to a bigger club. That club won the last two Croatian Championships, so I would say the biggest. So when you get that chance to go there and play, you take it. That's why I decided to continue with basketball. I'm tall, so it would be weird if I didn't play basketball."

NCAA BASKETBALL: MAR 24 Div I Women’s Championship Second Round - Duke vs Ohio State

Buckeyes start the season ranked for the fifth season in a row.

College basketball season is fast approaching and Land-Grant Holy Land is getting you ready with a series of player previews. Before the season starts this fall, check back regularly for more player previews, schedule news, features, and more heading into the 2024-25 Ohio State women’s basketball season.

The 2024-25 college basketball season is inching closer, with the Associated Press adding the next step at the start of the campaign by releasing the preseason top 25. Ohio State women’s basketball enters the season ranked No. 14.

It’s the fifth season in a row and eighth in the 12 years under head coach Kevin McGuff where the AP included the Buckeyes. Last season, Ohio State entered the year at No. 7, eventually sitting at No. 2 for the second season in a row.

After losing to the Duke Blue Devils in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Scarlet and Gray were No. 16 in the final AP poll of the season.

Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams in the top 25. Newcomers from Los Angeles, California both sit in the top five. The USC Trojans are at No. 3 with the UCLA Bruins two spots behind at No. 5.

Then it’s a long way before the Buckeyes join at No. 14. Behind Ohio State are the Maryland Terrapins at No. 18, Nebraska Cornhuskers at No. 23, and Indiana Hoosiers at No. 25. Sitting just outside of the top 25, with 37 votes, are the Iowa Hawkeyes who no longer have superstar guard Caitlin Clark, with the media not having as much confidence in the guard Lucy Olsen and forward Hannah Stuelke partnership.

Michigan State and Illinois also received votes in the initial poll.

The Big Ten placement mostly aligns with how the media and coaches voted in the conference preseason poll. Nebraska is the lone exception. The conference voters put the Hoosiers above the Cornhuskers in the preseason top five, but AP voters have more confidence in forward Alexis Markowski’s side.

Coach McGuff’s side ranked at No. 14 isn’t too much of a surprise. There are a multitude of roster changes that support the ranking. Departures of graduate senior starters like Jacy Sheldon, Celeste Taylor, and Rebeka Mikulášiková are going to be a hurdle to get over.

Ohio State will have three new starters with No. 2 overall 2024 guard Jaloni Cambridge, Oregon guard transfer Chance Gray, and Kentucky forward transfer Ajae Petty likely in their places.

AP’s top 25 doesn’t do much for the Buckeyes light non-conference schedule. The only Power Four school on the calendar this year was the Stanford Cardinals and voters didn’t put Stanford in the top 25. That could change by the time the two sides play on Dec. 20, but right now, the first ranked opponent for Ohio State won’t come until the Buckeyes welcome the Terrapins on Jan. 23, 2025.

Seriously. Their answer at QB is a guy who's trying to Tommy Boy his way out of having to get a job.

The replies talking about Tuttle "getting more experience" are particularly hilarious. Guy is in his fucking 7TH YEAR! and some of them are talking as if he's a freshman

Even though they're ranked high, I still am not worried about beating them in a few weeks. It will be tough, but I can see Day curb stomping the Pedsters
I really hope you're right. It is now a "must win" game to win the conference championship. It isn't a "must win" to get to the playoffs. I think Ohio State is in with losses to Oregon and Penn State. But a loss to Penn State makes it nearly impossible to make the Big Ten championship game, which I'd like to see my team win after not making it for 3 years.

Ohio State should have won in 2016, and 2018 shouldn't have been that close. I know - those were Urban Meyer's teams. But I'll still be relieved when the clock reads 00:00 and the good guys have more points than the Penn State pretenders.

Optimism!! :lol::lol::lol:

If a guy was a recruit in 2018! and STILL AROUND in 2024, it's because he was never good enough to be a pro and is just clinging to the dream. The guy has never shown he is anything more than a Indiana level backup QB. It's hilarious watching some of the DFBIA still swear he's going to help turn around their season.

Seriously. Their answer at QB is a guy who's trying to Tommy Boy his way out of having to get a job.

HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

This is such a tired argument. Dan Lanning is a first time head coach at an elite program who started after Day and he coached circles around him on Saturday. A lot of it just comes down to how you are wired.

Lanning and their staff did a great job with the gameplan. He outcoached Day. He has also won nothing as of yet.

Sorry, but pregame expectations don't mean squat when you establish a double digit lead in the 4th quarter and blow it. You gotta finish those, I don't give a damn who the opponent is.

QB1 Will Howard (Official Thread)

Lanning confirmed today that it was done intentionally. It's a pretty rare set of circumstances that would trigger abuse of this rule, but it is a rule that should be adjusted simply because it's easy to come to an agreement on what the change should be. It's unfortunate that a bad call and a savvy rule exploitation contributed to the loss, but the Buckeyes should have put themselves in a better position.
I agree with your last statement 100%. And I tip my hat (if I were wearing a hat, that is) to him for exploiting that. I'm not happy he did, but good on him to do that to his advantage.
