your brainstorming is what has already been alleged by many on many boards. if there was illegal activity, it was either that gibson got a car for free or that he didn't pay the sales tax.

how would kniffin "doctor up a title" by himself anyway? wouldn't the finance department at maxton and auto direct have to be in on the gig, too?
Oh, I've seen lots of boards talking about the "0" dollar title. I don't think he (the saleman) would be that stupid to sell a car for nothing to an athlete - but I've known lots of people to dummy up sales agreements saying that they sold a car for less than the actual purchase price in order to avoid paying proper taxes.

Of course selling a car worth far more of less would be improper benefits. Helping someone avoid paying their fair share of taxes is an altogether different issue than selling a car for cheap. The former is a clear violation. The latter not so much. I mean, the athlete has an obligation to pay his correct taxes that is separate and distinct from whatever transaction happened at the dealership. There is no similar obligation not to get a good deal on a car. That is an NCAA rule. I don't see playing with the title as an improper benefit so much as an opportunity/encouragement for the athlete to avoid taxes. If you say this talked about elsewhere I missed it.

If the home games continue to sell out, and the B10 puts two teams in the BCS, then considering the B10 splits all bowl revenue equally...then how, exactly would there be a "dramatic decline in revenue"?

Honest question.

I'm assuming the home games will not continue to sell out under that scenario, at least not at the current ticket prices. I'm also assuming merchandise sales and alumni/booster donations will dramatically decline.

??? dont think so...Ohio State is a tough ticket even in 99 during 6 and 6 and Coopers first year 3 and whatever. People will come to the game....Ohio State for many is about kids that represent the best football in the state of Ohio no matter who is coaching. This isnt a profesional franchise.....it will drop off but not into the red like most programs. The folks that are talking about turning their back on the kids that play for tOSU because of some fake moral outrage are few and far between. The only thing i noticed about this most recent era of Ohio State football is the trashy turds that jumped on the bandwagon. Maybe we purge them...

I think there will be a decline in interest in Buckeye football as fatigue over this stuff sets in. That probably leads to less merchandise being purchased at a minimum.

 I don't think tOSU gets paid by the t-shirt. I'd imagine the Nike deal would outlast any short term bump in the road, tho I don't know for sure.

While the athletic budget may not be affected that much, the success of the football team has a tremendous affect on giving on the academic side. People feel more in touch and prouder about their school when they win BCS and Championship games. And while it seems wack to base one's willingness to contribute to their alma mater on such things, that is what is the real world experience. Winning can have a tremendous success on a capital campaign.

Licensing income from logo and team related sales does spike with athletic success. Happened to the Gators each year they won BB or football. Band wagoners jump on, and fans who have not replaced their Wuerffel or Leak jersey buy a Tebow one. Income from championship years spikes and allows you to take care of big ticket items. UF used 06 and 08 to build and fund a new lacrosse field (well, not "new", in that we'd never had one before) and sponsor a women's lacrosse program. You use the good years to pay for stuff you can't get commits for in the bad years.

If you can - you want to be linked to Jerry Jones. Look at the royalty income chart. I wonder how much is volume and how much (if any) is based upon new deals/terms over that time?

Several dozen companies are courting Ohio State University with offers to supply its licensed apparel, including owner Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys.
OSU is weighing the proposals, aimed at the school's lucrative logo-wear business, which accounts for about 65 percent of the $7.3 million to $9.3 million that the university has made annually on licensing in recent years.

Okay, I'm an outside fan, but to my 'virgin Big 10' eyes here, it seems that the local media outlet 'The Dispatch' has some kind of man-crush on JT and the university.

Are they like the spurned ex-girlfriend that was beautiful, but too damn crazy to get with? You know, the one that keys the car, slashes your tires....stuff like that?

If by man crush you mean.....excited to be able to report the unraveling of one of the largest football programs and respected coaches in the nation than yes.

of course, these people were dealership employees, right?

I'm not sure about all of the different sales that the dealership went through in the time span being reported, but...

I do know that if you get a Chrysler 300 with less than 20k on that bad boy for $0 bucks, you'd better have a damn good explanation for it.

A guy I used to coach with told me one time:

"When I played, the coaches told us - if you leave one weekend with a Honda POS and come back with any kind of car that starts with a 'C' and doesn't rhyme with crappy, we got problems."

The GoodFellas reference was good earlier. Especially since everybody involved with the Lufthansa heist was wacked by Jimmy, LOL

This whole thing is turning into a textbook definition of lack of institutional control. Wexner and Ong need to step in and clean fucking house.

I'm at the point where I wouldn't be disappointed if the ncaa gave us the death penalty.
