Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

I did not do this

I worked 40 hours a week and took a full load of classes

I had to just to get by. Even though my parents didn’t help me at all, my father made too much for me to get a federal grant in year one. I made too much money to get a federal grant thereafter.

Sound like an easy trap to fall into? It was. That’s why I wasn’t alone. Lots of people were in that boat. All you had to do was tell the truth on your financial aid forms. Then, while you’re walking to work on a Saturday (a car is way outside your budget), you get to hear a frat boy bragging to a sun bathing hottie that he’d just put a car stereo in his BMW with his Pell Grant

Digressions aside, I promise you that no one who was working full time while taking a full load of classes gives a single fig about the History of Art. Education for the sake of education is still an extremely elitist commodity. It’s one of the things that makes elites think they’re better than the rest of us.

Better at what? I’ve never been able to ascertain that. Unless perhaps rigging the system is considered…. They’re running the university system into the ground and pricing it to the point where it is now far more expensive than it’s worth… yeah. That’s a feature. Not a bug

As for learning things “from Google”. There are better ways of learning things from the internet, and some of those can even result in credentials, including the credentials that have made me more money than my BSEE ever did. These alternative sources of education and credentialing are starting to replace the university system, and the people at the helm of the university system have done this to themselves
100 percent this. I was lucky because I grew up with a peer group that was in the same boat as me and we helped each other get through it. Working your way through school was easier in the 70s because tuition was dirt cheap and 4 guys could rent a house off campus and get by. Nowadays it is no longer attainable. Pay exponentially more for a worse education.

I think many fans are still under the impression that recruiting is still like it was 5-10yrs ago, and the National champion should just clean up in recruiting and stockpile talent like Bama under Saban and UF under Meyer. And that's just not the case anymore. And it's weird to me, because its all adults who have actual adult jobs not understanding how much throwing dollars at a person can alter their decisions. If Company A offered $80k/yr and you like everything about the company, but Company B offered you $200k/yr and you just thought the company culture was just alright. Idk a person alive that would pass up the $200k salary. It's no different in the recruiting age with NIL. Without NIL, OSU would've cleaned up in recruiting the last few years. But the reality is, programs get desperate and their fans want some type of results. And if you can't buy wins, you can sure as heck buy talent, and keep those fans happy for a time being. Miami fans are angry at their results on the field, but they're not loudly mad at their staff because they've landed a good amount of 5star talent. OSU fans are up in arms mad because they keep missing on the same 5star talent, because their program refuses to get in the desperation game. 1 program has just won the NC, and has one of the highest win percentages in CFB history, the other can't even win the Pop Tarts bowl. Which team would you rather be a fan of?
And I would guess for a good percentage of these kids the money being offered to them is a difference maker for them and their loved ones.

Exactly, it's a completely different game than it was 10 years ago.

The days of a couple of teams hoarding all the top players are over, it's more spread out than ever.

The bought and paid for pure bag classes have yet to work at all for anyone, you can almost just ignore the Texas A&M, USC, Cryami and now scUM type teams when it comes to the rankings because those bought and paid for bag classes are much more likely to fall apart completely than actually win anything together.

We still have a top 3 class in terms of player quality currently even with the "misses". Some of our fan base wants to act like this type of thing is only happening to Ohio State, the other true top schools are getting bag swooped too. Its frustrating it keeps happening to us specifically at one position but in the end the coaches have shown they know what they are doing and I trust they will figure it out.

tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Super! Now college football will be like racing, and pro golf! Soon to see football unis with fabric softener adorning them.....maybe U of Miami can have bail bondsmen logos prominently displayed?
NBA has been doing this as well. And pretty much every major stadium in America now has a major company's name adorning it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_NFL_stadiums
Lambeau is the only stadium with their original name. There's so much money in sports, and its to the point where it HAS to involve major companies. CFB is no different, and I wouldn't be surprised when it comes to CFB where stadiums are no just Ohio Stadium, Darrel K Royal Stadium, Autzen stadium, etc. But its Nationwide Ohio stadium, Apple Stadium in Austin, Nike Stadium, etc. And before fans get mad, its all our doing because we have an insatiable love for the sport and the executives know it. Recruiting(essentially wondering where teenagers will play collegiate sports) has become so popular that it is garnering billions of dollars just to guess where a 16 or 17yo will go to school and earn upwards of 6 figures a year.

Yea that's likely exactly what it is, the timing of them starting to throw crazy money left and right is rather conveniently lining up with everything. Even if the NCAA lets them off light I get the feeling this class still doesn't hold up for them, the NIL promises are getting so grand that some of them are bound to fall apart.
The Texas A&M conundrum.

It makes sense if you think about it. They have some major infractions coming, and this is the way to keep up appearances, and the image of stability. If you seen as down, you are down.

2026 CA QB Luke Fahey is a Buckeye!!!

Same school as WR Phillip Bell

(and DE Ryan Williams for the older guys)

edit: not old like @BB73
Some other notable Mission Viejo names from that time:

Mark Sanchez (Mr. Butt Fumble himself), Konrad Reuland (Notre Dame TE), and an offensive tackle I remember pulling hard for the Buckeyes to get (I think he also went to USC), but the name is escaping me.

I could be wrong but im gonna guess this is more Michigan offering a insane amount rather than us being extreme penny pinchers.

What 11 said - TCUN is having to offer up so much in NIL right now it's not prudent or logical to even bother trying to keep up. Look at the storm clouds around that program - no matter what the NCAA ends up doing to them, they are deficit spending just to get people.

The recruiting is fine - people freaking out over 17 year olds who are getting millions are hilarious.

I can understand making federal loans non exempt.

Protecting private lenders is just so blatantly corrupt it makes my teeth hurt. Anyone naive enough to think that big government is a good idea because they have our best interest at heart should look at this timeline and no, it isn't a party line thing. Clinton and W both oversaw parts of it.

Consumer protection act...
Well...look at what happened 3 years later in 2008. In a lot of ways the world economy still hasn't totally recovered from that mess despite the COVID shock and aftermath to that. Politicians aren't totally to blame but they definitely share in it.
