2025 Spring Practices, Spring Game, and other Tidbits

Three losers from the Ohio State football Spring Game

These three players did not do the most with their snaps during the Spring Game.

1. Aaron Scott

The cornerback room is a very competitive room right now. There are a lot of guys fighting to see time behind Davison Igbinosun and Jermaine Mathews Jr. Aaron Scott is one of those players. He hardly played last year because of some injuries that he was dealing with.

Scott struggled most of the day covering Mylan Graham. He got shook a couple of times on routes, completely falling down. He didn't look like someone who is ready to grab a starting cornerback spot. He might have some work to do as a backup, first.

2. Tavien St. Clair

Being a true freshman quarterback, Tavien St. Clair does not have a chance to win the starting job this season. His head is swimming as he works his hardest to learn the playbook and understand what the Buckeyes want from him. Saturday was not his best day.

The number-two overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting class struggled for most of the day. He was just 1/7 in the first half and finished the game with two interceptions. He did lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to a touchdown on the final drive, firing in a touchdown pass. Perhaps that gives him some confidence.

3. The starting defensive line

Three winners from the Ohio State football Spring Game

These players got the most out of their snaps during Ohio State's Spring Game.

1. Julian Sayin
Julian Sayin was by far the best quarterback that the Buckeyes had during this game. In the first half alone, he finished 14/20 for 165 yards and a touchdown. He led the team down the field for multiple scores and truly looked the part. This was a much better performance for him than in the last two scrimmages.

If the season started tomorrow, Sayin would win the starting quarterback job. He was in command of the offense and looked like someone who was confident in his skills. Even after Lincoln Kienholz got the first crack at playing with the first-team, that didn't phase him.

2. Mylan Graham

One receiver who has a lot of expectations surrounding him this year is Mylan Graham. Graham was a five-star recruit in last year's class, but he hardly played. He didn't get to the team until the summer, so that set him back a bit. He watched a lot during the year and has come back with a lot of confidence.

Graham was very good in this game. He had several moments in which he shook Aaron Scott to get open, including during an impressive touchdown grab that saw him break a tackle from Malik Hartford. He looks like someone who will be a factor this Fall.

3. Bo Jackson

TenneCheat VolunTears (official thread)

Volnation forum is saying Lanning reached out to Heuple (?) to tell Tennessee that Nico's camp was shopping him around. I think before the holdout and some are surmising this warning caused Nico's camp to pivot from their original plan. So Oregon is out a well.
That rumor has been going around

Why the Ohio State football team should stay far away from Nico Iamaleava

With Tennessee moving on from him, the Buckeyes should not pursue him in the transfer portal.

The Ohio State football team is in a quarterback battle right now with Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz. It's a battle that seems to be neck-and-neck, according to what Ryan Day has said. No decision will likely be made until the start of Fall practice.

Ohio State feels really good about the options they have at quarterback they feel that either of them is good enough to lead this team as they try to defend a national championship. Both have shown enough talent that the Buckeye coaching staff feels comfortable naming either player a starter.

Nico Iamaleava is a talented quarterback who played for Tennessee last year. I say last year because the Vols have decided to move on from him after he tried to extract more NIL money from the Vols. Many have speculated that the Buckeyes should go after him in the transfer portal.

Why the Ohio State football team should not pursue Nico Iamaleava

Even though Iamaleava is very talented, this is one player the Buckeyes should not pursue in the transfer portal. He clearly became enough of a distraction from this move that the Vols did not want to have him on their team. He clearly isn't good enough to warrant whatever price he is trying to get.

In his final game with the Vols, he was just 14-31 for 104 yards against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Is that a stat line good enough to warrant a raise in NIL money? Definitely not. Ohio State already has two more talented quarterbacks on their current roster anyway.

Iamaleava is not worth the headache to pursue in the portal. Ryan Day has built a strong culture within the team that is focused on winning. Everyone is getting their fair share of NIL money, too. They feel both Sayin and Tavien St. Clair have more talent than Iamaleava.

Just sayin':

1) Yeah, definitely Ohio State should pass on him.

2) "Per sources: Nico Iamaleava has been in contact with 3 schools that have agreed to construct a deal if he left Tennessee." Colorado/Prime Time seems like a good fit for Nico. I wonder if "the sources" are basically his agent who actually called Ohio State, not Ohio State calling him. The agent may be just trying to drive up Colorado's offer by making them think there are other schools in the bidding for Nico.
You don’t need to put tomatoes in your gumbo to know he sucks.

As someone said in a post earlier, if tOSU pursues him it’s not a good sign about the qb room

SG Scotty Middleton (transfer to Seton Hall, transfer to Tulane)

Well fast forward 1 year and ... Scotty Middleton is back in the transfer portal. He averaged 5 points and 2 rebounds in 21 minutes per game for a 7-25(!) Seton Hall team. Safe to say now he's not looking like much of a loss for OSU. I get that we need decent bench players, but I think maybe OSU was getting as much as they could out of him.
