We've fired the coach twice in the last 10 years. Our basketball program is kind of like Auburn football, and the fans want the coach fired every year because they're not on top. I think fans should have some patience, because NIL is a constantly evolving new world and coaches like Diebler who didn't have well-funded pay infrastructure built up before them have to figure it out. Of course there's trial and error involved when you're navigating an unfamiliar system. There's a reason why Jon Scheyer was born on 3rd base in coaching, and it wasn't just the job he inherited, it was the big money connections. Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program, and getting top prospects is what it takes for a program to be elite.

Looking forward to next year, it seems to me they will target the transfer portal to add a top-notch PG. Since Johnson flaked out and left them right before signing day, this will be their best fall-back option. Diebler had a plan to succeed Bruce, it just fell through late, and the timing makes it unlikely to add the ideal candidate through the high school ranks. I know you want to see someone lined up there to help fill those big shoes, but you'd rather they take their time and get the best guy they can find than just add anyone they can find.
