How likely is a Tilly-Ohio State reunion?

Just one week from fall classes starting, the Ohio State men’s basketball team has one spot remaining on the 2026-27 roster. It is one of the worst-kept secrets in town that former Buckeye center Christoph Tilly is rumored to be someone that Ohio State is considering “adding” to the team ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Tilly, a German-born 7-footer who played three seasons at Santa Clara before finishing up his college career at Ohio State last season, recently gained one additional year of college eligibility thanks to a July 31 injunction by U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney in Denver, Colorado. For now, this will allow players from the class of 2022 (last year’s seniors) to play one final season. This ruling comes in the wake of the NCAA’s new “5 for 5” rule, where college athletes will have five years to play five seasons. Last year’s seniors were not eligible for this benefit — until this ruling.

That means formerly ineligible players like Tilly — who put his name into the transfer portal in April just in case something like this happened — are now eligible to play one final season.

A source close to the Ohio State program confirmed to Land-Grant Holy Land that Tilly is someone Ohio State is “considering” using the final roster spot on, but that’s all. There is no agreement in place to bring Tilly back at this time, although it is a possibility as we inch closer to the fall semester beginning.

That's a crazy line for a first game. It could be a Pitt game where we win 70-0 or it could be sloppy and full of mistakes. You'd probably be on the winning side with those bets.

Just sayin': The Canes are putting together a pretty good 2027 recruiting class. However, 24/7 has them overall #4 behind aTm (with six 5-stars), ND, and uNike. Ohio State is #7.

Heck his star WR his junior year was Buckeye WR, Phillip Bell. He ran an offense closer to OSU's as well, so his mental game starts at a higher level than TSC's. But the problem is, he's not even 6ft, and is about 20+lbs lighter than TSC.

As to TSC, I am the big biggest fan but also threw caution to the wind on all the points you brought up. Going from Bellefontaine at his stage of progression into Ohio State was going to take time. He's already improved by leaps and bounds, but Fahey came in more college ready and that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. The good thing is we have another year for development to play out but the only question is who's up first this year in the "lord forbid" scenario.

I always enjoy shots like this as it gives perspective how the players compare size-wise. Such as I did not know Cincere is almost as tall as CHjr.

I don't think him pushing TSC is as surprising as one may think. TSC has all of the physical tools to be a great college QB and get to the NFL, but he played at a very small HS with some very simple play calls. And many big plays were made based off of broken plays and TSC being such a physical marvel compared to the kids he was playing. I don't think he played with or against a kid that would play big time D1 CFB.
