BP Fantasy Baseball est. 2008 (Current Champion = Ahiacitian)

Is the hard count 6?

If that is the case then I'd suggest a mix of 3 counting stats and 3 rate stats to make it balanced. @heisman and @Ahiacitian have said everything about the categories, stats and how they play out that anyone can say.

I'd maybe ask it this way before we get going and still have plenty of time: what are we trying to accomplish? Then the stats in each category are just how. I would also set the realistic expectation of; you can't get it perfect. There are unintended consequences and ways to manipulate the rules no matter what you do.

It sounds like there is frustration with streaming players (pitchers mostly) and the over importance of middle relievers. I agree that those two things are heavy in this league but I'll make the case they are the shock absorber/equalizer for those with less talent/skill/experience in drafting.

At the end of the day, this is supposed to have an entertainment aspect to it and I think this is the real balance that needs to be struck/decision made on what you are trying to do. I see a normal kind of distribution curve here 2-3 guys who are really up on fantasy baseball and draft well, a bunch of dudes in the middle who are into it and get it but just are not into it at that top level followed by 2-3 dudes who will just be present to field a team to make the league have enough teams.

That group in the middle is largely about entertainment value/having fun with this so if you clamp down too hard on the streaming and all that you are swinging the pendulum toward drafting skill. If that's what you want to do then fine, but I think 80+% of the league will fall behind and if they can't be as active in the day to day, just sit there and do nothing.

I'm with you either way and I love a good discussion about stats and doing stuff differently but I want to make sure I say my piece on the overall entertainment part. Too far toward draft and hold (in season) is going to be no bueno for a bunch of casual guys I think but who knows?

@Jaxbuck is now on rules committee as well ;]

DC Matt Patricia (Official Thread)

Patricia’s sneakers are Nike Air Force 1s. Using an all-white base, O’Neill customized the shoes with black detailing and scarlet and gray accents. He also added an image of Matt Patricia above the Nike logo. The illustration shows Patricia wearing a backwards hat — a look he often sported during his NFL career — along with his trademark pencil tucked behind his ear.

"Can’t wait to bust them out in season two at the Shoe!" Patricia wrote.

Not necessarily opposed to runs created, I just haven’t played with this category before. So based on your definition of runs + RBI’s - HR’s, a 3-run HR would gain 3 in this category (1 run + 3 RBI - 1 HR)? And the HR still counts in the HR category? Would definitely be different, but could be a cool change.
That’s correct. 3 runs created on a 3 run HR.

so what then is the sweet spot for categories?

2025-2026 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I don't want Diebler fired this year. Next year though has to be make or break.

I'd love for him to prove me wrong and succeed but I just don't see it.

Next year's team is liable to be worse with Bruce gone, unless you think Diebler is going to bring in a noticeably better portal haul than this year and last that is enough to make up for losing Bruce AND improving the team where it needs it most. Which seems highly unlikely. Yes I know NIL NIL NIL but they've been very poor at their evaluations and identifying the best realistic options of guys they can bring in.

Combining saves and holds would deflate all relief pitching value in general since you are rewarded in only one category and not two.

Ohio State @ Iowa, Wednesday Feb. 25, 9pm EST, BTN

If they lose out, that would be a situation, in the context of recent seasons, that typically leads to the coaching staff being fired. ... ...

They aren't firing Diebler after this year regardless of how it ends. Id be very shocked. Only situation I could maybe see that happening is if he clearly loses the team

Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

Cincinnati sues Sorsby over $1M exit fee after Texas Tech transfer

Cincinnati sued former quarterback Brendan Sorsby in federal court Wednesday, alleging he breached his NIL contract with the Bearcats when he refused to pay a $1 million exit fee after he transferred to Texas Tech.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, seeks $1 million in liquidated damages, which the school said Sorsby was contractually obligated to pay within 30 days of transferring.

In the complaint, Cincinnati's attorneys said the quarterback's representative "advised that Sorsby refuses to pay the University anything."

Sorsby reportedly signed an NIL agreement with the Red Raiders that will pay him between $4 million and $6 million this season.

"In his lucrative NIL agreement with Cincinnati Athletics, Brendan Sorsby committed to stay and play for two seasons as a proud Bearcat representative," the university said in a statement Wednesday. "He also agreed that if he left the university before that time, he would pay the university a specific amount for the substantial harm that his breach would cause.

"Cincinnati Athletics intends to enforce that contractual commitment. As stewards of the university's resources, the Athletics Department has a duty to do so. We thank Brendan for his time at Cincinnati and wish him success in the future."

The lawsuit said that Sorsby signed an 18-month NIL contract with the Bearcats that covered the 2025 and 2026 seasons. It was set to expire on Dec. 15, 2026.

Just sayin': Colleges suing athletes for braking NIL contracts is just goin to get more and more common.
This will be the only way programs can protect themselves from players leaving every year for another program for a bigger deal. I don't blame UC(or any school tbh) for using this tactic.

What if we had no drop list rules? Chasing those K’s might also ruin your ERA and WHIP. The current “problem” as I see it, is that a low leverage middle reliever is more valuable than a starting pitcher, which is like the Madden 90’s glitch where you could recover the onside kick on every onside kick.
True, but if your ratios are already ruined, you shouldn’t be rewarded by running more mediocrity out there. If you want to eliminate middle relief value, you need to eliminate the holds category. But you can’t eliminate a pitching category without also eliminating a hitting category. So you might then need to change holds to a different pitching category if it is truly a problem.
