The Ohio State Baseball (Official Thread)

I think this team can be decently competitive in B1G play as long as they keep growing from what I've seen so far. They obviously aren't gonna be conference title contenders but I think they can definitely do better In conference than projected by outsiders. There's still a lot of growing to do of course though but this isn't the hopeless mess we had last year.

Wish they woulda gotten that W over UTSA that one really got away

WR Coach Cortez Hankton (Official Thread)

Now that Hankton is the wide receivers coach at Ohio State, those receivers expect Hankton’s success to continue in Columbus.

“They're getting everything they need,” Thomas said Friday during his media interview session at the combine. “From an off-the-field standpoint, he's always somebody you can pick up the phone and call when you have off-the-field problems. And on the field, his résumé speaks for itself.”

Asked to name someone who’s played a key role in helping him prepare to play in the NFL, Thomas identified Hankton.

“He guided me this whole way. He taught me things that I didn't know. Showed me the ropes. And he had guys before me, guys that played a long time and still in the league right now,” Thomas said. “So just understanding that he's going to lead me in the right direction, I always pick up the phone and call him.”

Bell has actually been with the Buffaloes since last year, but had not formally been announced as a member of Colorado’s coaching staff until Saturday. His promotion to safeties coach comes after former Colorado defensive coordinator Robert Livingston, who doubled as Colorado’s safeties coach, left the Buffaloes to be the defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach for the NFL’s Denver Broncos.

After moving from third base to the outfield midway through last season, Noelvi Marte is expected to see some time in center field this spring, according to Charlie Goldsmith.
Marte is very athletic, and the Reds think he has a chance to be an above-average defensive outfielder. We saw glimpses of that at times last season, whether it was showing off his arm throwing runners out at the plate, or his season-saving catch he made at the wall against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Nick Krall was asked about Marte getting reps in center earlier this offseason on the Reds Hot Stove.
"I think, he's obviously a top-of-the-line runner. So, as a game changer, and I don't want to discount TJ (Friedl) either, not at all. I think you're going to see some of these guys go and say, okay, well, what's the best you know who can who can do this? Who can't do this? And you know, when you look at Marte, he played two months in the big leagues, well two months in his career in right field, and they were in the big leagues after basically taking some shagging some balls for a while."
