SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

What a shitty rule change. Does this crap apply to only SEC vs SEC games ?
Can a conference change a National rule? My guess as to why is that offsides gets called for the slightest twitch and possibly kills too many drives. Fans want scoring. Unless it’s the wrong team scoring.

Should semipro/college players be paid, or allowed to sell their stuff? (NIL and Revenue Sharing)

https://www.elevenwarriors.com/skul...listed-as-no-3-football-spender-in-survey-and

BIG-SPENDING BUCKS. A survey conducted by On3's Pete Nakos ranked Ohio State as spending the third-most money across college football this season.

There were several interesting notes from this story. Firstly, Nakos reported that sources indicate that the Buckeyes' roster costs more than $35 million. Those sources also said that Jeremiah Smith will be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the country this season, paid more than the $4.5 million he was reportedly offered to enter the transfer portal. Nakos also reported this:

“I’m not going to lie, we called about him,” a general manager said of Smith. “Reached out to his people. They were like, ‘It’s going to have to be $7 million.’ And I was like, ‘Have a great day.'”
Put whatever stock into that you wish. Some might be shocked to see Texas Tech at No. 2 on that list – Nakos reported that they will spend more than $28 million this year. They did have the No. 2 transfer portal class in the country, per 247Sports. The Red Raiders apparently outbid the Buckeyes for former USC running back Quentin Joyner, who Nakos reported Texas Tech won with a $700,000 offer.

Lastly, of interest after Ohio State missed out on four-star defensive end Luke Wafle:

Four-star EDGE Luke Wafle picked USC over Ohio State and Penn State and is expected to sign a three-year, $2.4 million deal.

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

I wonder how deep this goes? Chinese money in exchange for access to US scientific research? It wasn't much more than a decade ago that the gap between our endowments was only a couple of billion. Today it's 9 billion (17 versus 8). Where'd the money come from?

You misspelled WWI.
Don't you have to go to the1930s for them to have an all time series lead. We all know that the 2002-2019 was a wonderful aberration, but they act like the Cooper years were indicative of the entire rivalry. Even with the Cooper years we've always had a solid series lead since 1950.

Game Thread Texas at tOSU, Sat. Aug. 30th, 12pm ET, FOX

To me the biggest concern for OSU in this game is whether our defensive front seven can hold up physically in the interior and get the calls and run fits right to limit yardage and big plays from gash running plays, especially designed and improvised QB runs. Even if pressure on Manning isn't great, I'm much more concerned about that than about him ripping the defense up from the pocket. I think the Buckeyes' offense will put up at least 24 and agree with Jax that this feels like a big Max Klare game.

2026 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Guess the 'money talks, **** walks' aspect is still paramount. Wonder if the NFL pros look at these NIL newbies with a harsher attitude than they used to when the inflated starting salaries come in, topping what these veterans make? These newbies have their Lambos before they receive their rookie bonuses.
Idk why it would bother the pros, their pros. And most if not all pros know they should've received similar deals. But let's be honest, players HAVE BEEN GETTING PAID! Players have been getting luxury cars in college since the beginning of time. Idk why fans are acting like its such a new thing. Though the scUM Fab 5 players complained about not getting a cut from Nike, they ended up still accepting money under the table, getting caught and then getting their titles stripped. USC had a dominant early 2000s on the backs of paying stars like Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Leinert, etc. And I can go on about so many of the programs, but there's a reason why the same programs for decades have dominated collegiate sports. You don't accumulate a ton of talent without offering incentives. UCLA under Wooden wasn't getting athletes from all over the country based on their love for the Westwood and Wooden...

And those Lambos are all rented/leased, the players return them once they leave campuses. A lot of these pictures and videos on social media are smoke and mirrors.

If you can write, know college football, and love Ohio State, this might be the perfect paid opportunity for you.

Believe it or not, the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes will return to the practice field in just over two weeks as fall camp will kick off on Thursday, July 31. From there, it is less than a month before OSU kicks off its title defense against the Texas Longhorns.

So, as we approach the season, we here at Land-Grant Holy Land are looking to round out our roster of incredible Buckeye bloggers with another talented contributor. We are looking for someone with excellent writing skills, a vast understanding of the sport of football, and a passion for Ohio State.

Additionally, members of the LGHL staff should also have a unique viewpoint on college sports, a willingness to discuss both the good and bad moments in OSU’s season, and the ability to take their work (but not themselves) seriously. Land-Grant Holy Land has long looked to elevate the voices of all different types of Ohio State fans, and we continue to prize people who bring unique perspectives and insights into the game.

If you are an Ohio State fan and enjoy writing and talking about all things Buckeyes, this could be the perfect paid opportunity for you!

What does the role entail?

The writer roles will provide anywhere from one to three weekly articles covering Ohio State athletics. The focus for this position will primarily be football, with the opportunity to write about other sports as well.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with enough football knowledge to break down offensive and defensive plays, schematics, and fundamentals, while explaining them in relative layman's terms for Buckeye fans who don’t have technical football backgrounds.

We are also looking for someone to write nuanced and out-of-the-box columns about Ohio State football and other sports that go in different directions from the traditional articles that you find across the Buckeye beat.

However, we are open to any and all applicants with strong writing skills, a creative approach to thinking about Ohio State sports, and a sense of humor.

This role is a contract role and is compensated with a monthly stipend. The amount will be determined by your experience level and how many articles per week you write. However, think of this in terms of beer and pizza money, instead of rent money.

Additionally, if you are interested in podcasting, there are opportunities for additional stipends there as well.

What qualifications should you have?

Our best candidates will:

  • Have a passion for Ohio State athletics.
  • View Ohio State, college football, and sports fandom from a different perspective than most others covering college athletics.
  • Have writing and/or digital media experience — experience writing about college sports and/or Ohio State is a plus.
  • The ability to edit and write clean copy.
  • The ability to communicate efficiently with other bloggers and site editors.
  • Be comfortable working in a remote environment.

How do you apply?

To apply, please submit a brief introduction about yourself detailing why you’re the best person for the role, a resume showcasing any previous writing and/or digital media experience, and one writing sample showing what you can do in this role. You must submit all items to be considered for this opportunity.

All items should be submitted to Matt Tamanini, Land-Grant Holy Land’s co-managing editor, by Sunday, July 27 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Please email the materials to [email protected]. Please headline the email as “Land-Grant Holy Land: Writer application.”

Vox Media, SB Nation, and Land-Grant Holy Land are committed to bringing you coverage of the Buckeyes from a diverse array of voices and perspectives. If your experience and background do not perfectly align with every single thing we’re looking for, but you believe you have the ability to thrive in this role, we encourage you to apply!
