ALPHA DOG: QB LUKE FAHEY
It's always kind of cliche to give the Alpha Dog (top performer) following a 7v7 tournament to the winning team's quarterback but in this case, Fahey was more than deserving. When you're standing behind him in the pocket and can see how quickly he's processing what he's seeing, how quickly he gets through progressions and how early and on time he throws, it's next level.
The Ohio State commit rarely misses and has an advanced feel for how to play the position. He never looks nervous or flustered and orchestrated a text book 2-minute drill in the Diablos exciting semi-final win over a talented Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral team, throwing the game winning touchdown on the final play of the game.
A word we use a lot with Fahey is, 'surgical,' and we'll keep coming back to it because that's exactly what he looks like as a quarterback. He's able to carve up any defense with his precision passes, can make every throw on the field and he has really stepped up as a leader this off-season as well.
Seeing what an unpopular and unprofessional trainwreck Desmond is, why on earth would they bring on their own version of him.

Hey, if it had worked it would have been brilliant and would have crushed Sharonna's soul. It, however, was clear halfway through the first quarter that it was not going to work. There should have been a backup plan to light up the passing game, and that switch should have been made. Instead, Day doubled and tripled down on what was clearly going to be a losing strategy. The only reason I said almost is because I offer the one and only plausible explanation in the very next sentence
It’s not a rational explanation, but someone being in your head is never rational
I'm hoping that was the confidence boost he desperately needed. There's a GREAT coach in there...it takes a great coach to run that gauntlet with that all on the line. But he HAS to get over his scUM bugaboo.Hopefully playoff Day is here to stay and getting over the national title hump will keep him from going into a stupid john cooper esque shell in The Game.
To your point, how do teams practice all year for one way and then have to adjust immediately for another set of rules come playoff time.
This reeks of somebody influential complaining loudly in the off season and my guess would be Steve Sarkesian, Hugh Freeze or Josh Heupel
There's no almost. The entire game plan was totally inexplicable. We refused to attack their weakness and played into their one strength pretty much all day long. I will never not be bitter about that game. They were in Day's head, okay; but why didn't Chip, his supposed mentor, talk some fucking sense into him? Ugh.

The cheaters won in 2024 because Day made numerous (almost) inexplicable coaching decisions
Day made those decisions because scUM was in his head
scUM got into his head by cheating for 3 years
