A plane crash

In the 1990's I regularly rode on egg beaters from Anchorage Alaska to out to the Aleutians. I survived several terrifying landing in Dutch Harbor. Never got scared once. In the 2000's I flew to London and back several times. I was on a much safer plane, a jet to be exact but as I've aged I've become more aware of my mortality. I prefer not to fly these days. Call it a fear of flying but I feel out of control up at the mercy of the pilots, the aircraft and other factors. The last time I flew we hit some turbulence on our approach that shook us up pretty good and that was it for me.
Ah yes, that’s a helluva flight from Anchorage to Dutch. Had half the ceiling fall in one time and then had to land at King(?) Is on the AF strip to refuel because the headwinds were so strong.

The takeoff out of Dutch straight up is wild and seeing the plane wreckage on that Mountain as your going up is a bit unnerving.

Good times for young men….

Cincinnati Reds (2025 is our year! Haha thats actually funny)

I don't see how anyone could put Steel Hall above Tyson Lewis.

Lewis has dominated a professional league already. Hall has another year of HS iirc.

Scouts and advanced metrics both point to Lewis being "different" (exit velo's etc)

Hall has shown a weakness against secondary pitches in HS.

SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

Who gives a shit if the SEC has a rule that seems to parrot the NFL rule.. who gives a shit if they use it for nefarious purposes to enhance the likes of Bama over the cocks... who cares if they use it as an excuse ... if they even do...

Heres what I think. The SEC went short term with the like minded short term thinkers at ESPN. Say what you want about Delaney but ... solid academic institutions, unified for more than athletic purpose alone, along with its vast alumni and consequently, money... leveraged into even more money through the B1G network and expansion plan. (Hint, it wasn't about Maryland or Rutgers. It was about NYC and DC)

Moreover, the SEC s weekness has been its small footprint. Well... it ain't getting much bigger. The B1G goes from NYC to Seattle to Los Angeles. .. Chicago... Minneapolis... Detroit... Pittsburgh.. Philly... Baltimore....

SEC has Dallas and Atlanta.. NoLa.. what else, market wise?

Portland Trail Blazers (1977 NBA Champions)

Sources: Damian Lillard reaches deal to return to Trail Blazers

Nine-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract to return to the Portland Trail Blazers, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

Lillard's deal includes a player option in 2027-28 and a no-trade clause.

Lillard joins the Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James as the only NBA players with a true no-trade clause in their contracts. Bradley Beal had one before coming to a buyout agreement with the Phoenix Suns earlier this week.

Lillard and the Trail Blazers both deeply cared about a reunion in recent weeks -- with multiple meetings among the Portland franchise icon, general manager Joe Cronin and head coach Chauncey Billups to bond together and move forward united on a new deal, sources said.

Lillard tore his left Achilles in late April in Game 4 of the Bucks' first-round playoff series with the Indiana Pacers and underwent surgery in early May.

Lillard will use the 2025-26 season to rehabilitate his injury, but a return to the franchise and Portland, where his family and children reside were of the ultimate importance, per sources. He also had multiple midlevel exception and minimum offers from NBA contenders, per sources.

Portland traded Lillard to the Bucks for Jrue Holiday, Toumani Camara, and assets in 2023 and then sent Holiday to the Boston Celtics for Robert Williams III, Malcolm Brogdon and assets (one led to Deni Avdija).

Now, the Blazers have both Lillard and Holiday (reacquired in a trade with the Celtics this offseason), plus Avdija, Williams, Camara, a 2029 first-rounder and two Bucks pick swaps.

A plane crash

Yeah, initially you would think seeing a show about an airplane crash might make you afraid to fly; however, for me it has the opposite effect. You see how rare airplane crashes are, how thoroughly the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigates them to find the exact cause(s), and how the fixes/changes/modifications are implemented to eliminate all those causes on future flights. You actually see how safe the airline industry really is.

Given improvements in technology, learning from past mistakes, and better training it is possible to eliminate all causes of commercial airline crashes. Except for:

--Collision with a smaller non-commercial plane who is not maintaining their proper position, which we saw in DC and have seen in close calls where private planes have gotten onto the wrong runways.
--Suicidal pilot. Nothing you can do about that unless the co-pilot can incapacitate him/her. Could also say a pilot that turns into a complete dumbass as we saw several years ago with Air France (flight from South America to Europe)

Memphis basketball fined, put on probation after NCAA finds softball players were paid to help with coursework

A Memphis academic advisor received the stiffest penalty in the form of a 10-year show-cause

The NCAA announced penalties for the Memphis men's basketball and softball programs on Wednesday as the result of an investigation into academic integrity violations. The investigation concluded that two softball players were paid a combined $550 by a former academic advisor, Leslie Brooks, to give the basketball player test and quiz answers and do some of his coursework for him.

As a result, the three players competed in 20 contests while ineligible. Both programs will be placed on two-year probation and fined $30,000, plus 1% of their combined budget. From the NCAA's statement:

... The enforcement staff and school agreed that the violations in this case occurred when Brooks asked two softball student-athletes to assist a men's basketball student-athlete with coursework for classes they had in common and said she would pay the student-athletes for supporting him. The first softball student-athlete went on to complete three assignments for the men's basketball student-athlete and was paid $150. The second softball student-athlete provided the answers to five tests and four quizzes to Brooks, plus the answers to an additional two tests and one quiz directly to the men's basketball student-athlete. She was paid $400 by Brooks.

2026 OH DB Jakob Weatherspoon (OSU decommit, North Carolina Verbal)

True, but just think, LSU and Rutgers are also dealing with losing their best DBs to OOS OSU. Its happening everywhere, gone are the days of relying on in state talent to fill your class. When money's involved you can't expect anything

Louisiana and Jersey kids don't have special powers.

SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

It's called desperation. Grasping at straws. Whatever you want to call it.

Envision a moment where this call could be called in an SEC SEC SEC game but isn't in an OOC game or playoff game where an SEC school loses? And if that particular play is key to that loss?

One thing the SEC does very well is they play the long game pretty well. They want to open this door so any controversy would work for them, i.e. "See, we did it THIS way, and THIS play wouldn't have counted, etc etc etc".
Bama about to lose to USCe? Boom, weirdo penalty to save the day.
