2027 IL DL Brayden Parks (Verbal Offer)

Is anyone as surprised as I am? A good midwestern boy, saying no thanks to the Buckeyes? Don't believe (but also don't KNOW) that the two-deep at either of those schools is any better/worse for him than the others. Can anyone drill a bit deeper on this? A free trip, with all the trimmings, to Buckeye-land is a hard thing to pass up, but either he did, or tOSU feels good enough about Fakatou to discourage him. Recruiting is still a very baffling business, that simply has to be experienced, not understood. Thanks in advance, Go Bucks!
OSU is favored to land possibly the #2 and #5 DTs in 2027. This kid is seen as an afterthought. LJsr is cooking if he can land 1 of them, but also throw in that OH DL, Reynaldo Perez is also a serious consideration in the class as the 2 or 3rd DT, and OSU is still in a good spot at DT

I'm really hoping for this too, every time they have Underwood go on a designed run and take the RBs out of the game is a win for their opponents. Underwood has not shown that he has the intangibles to be a constant running threat. It'll work great against scrubs like Western Michigan and UTEP where you can get by on athleticism alone, but most of their B1G schedule will corral him. If they think they are going to get what they got out of Dampier (a true dynamic runner) against much weaker Big 12 defenses with Underwood against their schedule this year it's gonna be fun to watch.
That’s what I’m betting on too. I find it difficult for the OC to all of the sudden be a spread, pass heavy or even more balanced in one year. Especially since athletically Underwood is superior to any QB he’s had, also a QB who is not built to run as a primary run threat. he would be more successful in a spread offense. Marshall should be the happiest offensive player. I’d be pissed to be a WR

Deciding When to Retire

You young folk have the Roth IRA's to work with. Those came along after the time when funds (and tax consequences) were available. Anyway, got our 31-year-old daughter interested, about five years ago, when she received a bequest from a relative. Had (made actually) her make investment choices, so she could get 'some skin in the game' instead of just doing it for her. This generation will in all probability not have retirements like we have, as it seems to be 'matching' 401(k) up to 6% of salary. Much different than earning credits based on length of service, and income combination. Ergo, you gotta have a bigger source of funds in retirement. There are some nice ETFs and Index funds out there that will grow, and hopefully provide a level of income for retirement that's not making one scrape together food/rent money.....

People to Punch, Pet Peeves, and General Vexations (mega-merge)

As I have had two knee replacements, don't listen to those above! Jumping off anything, 4' or not, means that there is zero 'give' to one's knees. It hurts like heck, and gives one those lightening bolts of pain that shoot through you. Go to the edge, sit down, and slide off gently....
Yes, I baby myself these days. No more prancing around like Lord Flasheart

Chaz Coleman (DE Penn St., transfer to Tennessee)

What kind of a name is Chaz for a DL. Chaz sounds like a 4-alarm douchebag in college who keeps golf clubs in his trunk and talks about having a Rolex and a black card before he's 30.

Thank you, Miami of Ohio, for taking so many Chaz's (Chazi?) out of our applicant pool.

Does Kalshi have bets open on the September Heisman, yet? I have a mortgage I'm willing to wager.

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

Well the government has a supposedly bipartisan bill in the works to remove repeated transfers, it's going to be 1 "free" transfer only with "salary cap" and "legitimate business purpose" NIL deals only. Players could accurately see the federal government as hostile to their interests & could organize in order to try and avoid more punitive actions from the government later on.

The show bill would have to be law first. Then maybe.

No current player is likely going to have to worry about it.

Between Sept. 2, 2022 and Oct. 22, 2022, Sorsby made at least 40 wagers on Indiana football and/or individual members of the team. According to the documents, the bets ranged from $1 to $114 and totaled at least $850.
.
.
during his two seasons at Cincinnati, Sorsby provided more than $60,000 to a FanDuel account registered to his brother-in-law that was accessed by Sorsby and a friend, according to the stipulated facts. Sorsby placed at least 165 impermissible bets on college and pro sports, but none related to Cincinnati's football team.

I mean, that's a bad headline look but the details don't really support that he was betting on his team. I hope they wouldn't nuke his career over it.

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

They do it in pro sports because they have an actual CBA.

Why on earth would players want to collectively bargain in college sports right now? They get to be a FA 4-5-6 times with no restrictions.

The only restrictions on their income and movement is how good they are.

This is getting int the NIL topic and not about basketball transfers at this point so I'll just leave it with saying the "establishment" brought this shit on themselves and the only real fix, as I see it, is to ask the question "are we an institution of higher learning" or "are we in the business of owning professional sports teams (entertainment)"?

All the issues come back to that. They are trying to be govern pro sports under the old framework of being an school. It doesn't work.

Steven Tyler Swain

According to court documents, Swain is charged following an incident involving the family dog "Shipley" after Swain's wife caught the incident on surveillance cameras that she recently installed as contractor work was being done inside the home.

The court documents provided very graphic details about what happened between Swain and "Shipley." We are unable to disclose the details other than to say the incident involved "licking."

The court documents stated Swain's wife said she was 100% sure the person in the video was her husband and 100% sure the dog in the video was her dog "Shipley."

Actually thought it was a 'bit of class' that tOSU players didn't even make a move toward the logo. Would also bet vcash that there was a lot of angst in the Xichigan locker room figuring out how/who would go to war over said logo. And all for naught. Was very proud of the Buckeyes for that great move. I probably would have faked a run at the logo, just to see the reaction it got. But then I'm a tad childish.
I thought that they just didn't want that crap on their shoes.

Sorsby placed at least 40 bets on Indiana football as Hoosiers QB

Brendan Sorsby placed at least 40 bets involving Indiana football as a quarterback for the Hoosiers, used sportsbook accounts registered to a family member and friends to wager approximately $90,000 over four years, and continued to gamble after transferring from Cincinnati to Texas Tech in December, according to court documents filed Friday.

The documents, filed by Sorsby's legal team in district court in Lubbock, Texas, reveal new details about how the quarterback transferred large sums of money to friends to fund his betting.

Sorsby has been diagnosed with a gambling and anxiety disorder and recently completed a 35-day stint in an Arizona gambling rehabilitation center, according to his attorneys. He is asking for a temporary injunction against the NCAA to maintain his college eligibility. A hearing is scheduled Monday in Lubbock.
.
.
.
The documents included a four-page stipulated facts, which Sorsby and Texas Tech submitted to the NCAA and wasn't contested by the governing body's enforcement staff. It stated that during his college career at Indiana (2022-23) and Cincinnati (2024-25), Sorsby used accounts registered in his name, a family member's name and friends' names to place at least $90,000 in impermissible wagers via Hard Rock Bet, FanDuel, Underdog and PrizePicks accounts.
Sorsby transferred at least $60,000 to two friends to cover bets made on his behalf, per the documents.

While Sorsby was enrolled at Indiana from June 2022 to December 2023, he acknowledged making at least 2,900 bets that totaled more than $30,000.

Between Sept. 2, 2022 and Oct. 22, 2022, Sorsby made at least 40 wagers on Indiana football and/or individual members of the team. According to the documents, the bets ranged from $1 to $114 and totaled at least $850.
.
.
.
In a May 16 statement to NCAA reinstatement staff, Sorsby wrote that the "bets made me feel like I was supporting the team when I was not playing in games..... , much like fans betting on their hometown teams to win. It was a way to make me feel more connected to my team when I wasn't playing. I always bet on Indiana to succeed."
.
.
.
uring his two seasons at Cincinnati, Sorsby provided more than $60,000 to a FanDuel account registered to his brother-in-law that was accessed by Sorsby and a friend, according to the stipulated facts. Sorsby placed at least 165 impermissible bets on college and pro sports, but none related to Cincinnati's football team.

Sorsby also continued gambling after enrolling at Texas Tech, according to the stipulated facts, by using accounts belonging to two of his friends. He sent $5,000 to the friends, who then placed bets on his behalf on the PGA Tour, NBA and MLB. Sorsby, who did not recall the number of bets made for him, did not wager on Texas Tech sports.
.
.
.
Sorsby entered 2026 as one of the most highly paid and buzzy players in the sport, as he transferred from Cincinnati to Texas Tech and was expected to be one of the sport's highest-paid players at more than $5 million. Sorsby was ESPN's No. 1 player in the NCAA transfer portal rankings.

Sorsby is considered a strong NFL prospect, and his inclusion in the supplemental draft would make him the most anticipated supplemental draft prospect in more than a decade, at least since Josh Gordon entered in 2012. No player has been drafted in the supplemental draft since 2019. Gordon was the last player to go as high as the second round, where he was picked back in 2012.

Just sayin': The $5M from Texas tech is probably (depending on what round he would be selected) more than he would likely get for his 1st year in the NFL if he opted for the supplemental draft.

I would say that the lucrative nature of college coaching contracts you mentioned absolutely is a motivating factor driving some of these NIL prices sky high. I don't think it's a coincidence that no low major like a Toledo or Akron, whose coaches make relatively little, has a booster ponying up big bucks for any of these players. I do feel that at some point there needs to be an authority that helps set the rates of pay for college athletes (amounts which would vary based on the circumstances obviously) - possibly much of this could be done through collective bargaining but if players don't want to unionize then the NCAA needs to step up and do it. One way to sort it out is, if the player disagrees with the amount he's offered, hiring a ton of arbitrators to evaluate each player's value with all things considered - they do it all the time in pro sports.

They do it in pro sports because they have an actual CBA.

Why on earth would players want to collectively bargain in college sports right now? They get to be a FA 4-5-6 times with no restrictions.
