2027 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

FWIW, Google AI:

Following five-star 2027 running back David Gabriel-Georges (DGG) choosing Tennessee, the Ohio State Buckeyes and running backs coach Carlos Locklyn are resetting their recruiting board with three primary high school targets.
Because Ohio State focused nearly all of its early cycle efforts on DGG, they must now pivot to flip candidates and under-the-radar prospects:

Primary High School Targets
  • Jayden Miles: Four-star Florida State commit. He was the only running back other than DGG to take an official summer visit to Columbus. He is considered the most straightforward flip target.
  • Nigel Newkirk: Four-star Alabama commit from Georgia. He originally cancelled a scheduled June visit to Ohio State after committing to the Crimson Tide, but the Buckeyes are circling back.
  • Trenard Roberts: Three-star Florida prospect playing at The Villages Charter School. Ohio State extended an early offer to him in June 2025 and maintains existing familiarity.
Alternate Paths
  • Senior Film Evaluation: The coaching staff will heavily scout uncommitted high school seniors during the upcoming season to identify late risers.
  • The Transfer Portal: If high school options fall through, Ohio State will heavily rely on the winter transfer portal. They have a history of portal success at the position, most notably landing Quinshon Judkins in the past.

Even w/o DGG, the RBs will be very young. Feisty certainly, and a true soph that ran for 1000+ yards right out of the gate? I see three back-ups that appear to be talented as well, and all wanting on the field. Good place to be. Only thing missing is that battle-tested 'gotta get this first down' attitude that has been proven. Would imagine that the RB coach(s) have shown film of previous tOSU great RBs, in order to instill in current RBs 'how it's done'. We'll see how they react when they get smashed by a DL, and whether they get up, huddle up, and run right at that DL guy once more. All of this will help prove their worth to the Buckeye fortunes on the field. My hunch is that there are three of the four that will exhibit these winning traits. Just a hunch, nothing solid behind it.
