Members of the Phillies and Twins emerge from the corn as part of the pregame ceremonies prior to the Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa

Cal Ripken Jr. (8) and Pudge Rodriguez (7) were among the 26 Hall of Famers to appear at the Field of Dreams in Iowa on Thursday. It was the largest gathering of Hall members outside of Cooperstown since the 2008 All-Star Game at old Yankee Stadium.

Major League Baseball came back to the Field of Dreams, carrying a big piece of Cooperstown.

The pregame pomp before the Minnesota Twins played the Philadelphia Phillies -- adjacent to the farmland where the 1989 fantasy was filmed -- featured 26 members of the Hall of Fame emerging from the outfield corn just as the ghost players did in the movie.

With some of the loudest cheers saved for former Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt and former Twins catcher Joe Mauer, the capacity crowd of about 8,000 at the newly constructed ballpark in northeast Iowa soaked up the surreal atmosphere as the retired stars strolled into the infield for proper introductions.

Fireworks were launched from the cornfield during the national anthem, and Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber followed with his own big bang -- a homer to right on Twins starter Taj Bradley's third pitch of the game that set the tone for a 7-1 win Thursday night.

Rasheem Biles alleges Ohio State called him while he was in the Transfer Portal

While speaking to the media, Biles claimed that the Buckeyes gave him a call about transferring to Ohio State.

“I ain't really trying to be in Columbus. I ain't trying to be a Buckeye. Like they didn’t want me out of high school and I was right there, so ain't no point in trying to get me now.”

Biles is a Pickerington native and claims that the Buckeyes didn't want him right out of high school. Biles was a three-star recruit out of high school in the 2023 recruiting class. Biles transferred from Pitt this past offseason and ended up in Austin playing for the Longhorns.

Ohio State is looking to make Biles sad again

The Buckeyes have done a good job of making the Longhorns sad over the last couple of seasons. The defense has done a good job of keeping Texas' offense from scoring many points, holding them to just 21 points combined in the two games. That will be a key again in Week 2.

Google AI: Rasheem Biles and Sonny Styles are close former teammates and good friends who starred together at Pickerington Central High School, winning a 2022 OHSAA Division I state basketball championship and playing shutdown defense on the football field.

High School Background & Connection

• • The "Twin" Dynamic: Biles and Styles played side-by-side at Pickerington Central and grew close under the guidance of former NFL defensive back/coach Lorenzo Styles Sr. (Sonny's father), who helped shape Biles into a high-level defensive talent.

Collegiate and Pro Paths

• • Sonny Styles: Reclassified/graduated early, starred at Ohio State, and moved on to the professional ranks as a linebacker.
  • Rasheem Biles: Initially committed to Pittsburgh out of high school before transferring to Texas. Biles made headlines when he entered the transfer portal and revealed he ignored a call from Ohio State because he felt overlooked by the Buckeyes during his initial high school recruitment.

Just sayin':
1. Pickerington HS linebacker now at Texas is pissed at Ohio State for not recruiting him put of high school.
2. Ohio state did all right in linebacker recruiting; Biles might have a difficult time beating out anyone for 3rd string on the current Ohio State team.

If the Guardians don’t turn it around soon all I’m going to hear about is the Clowns coming season.

And please fire the entire hitting staff.

1 out of every seems like the peak at this point for this squad

Eghads.

Ian may be even more important now?

good lord.
what a dumbass.

only one number has ever been officially retired by LSU in football.
Billy Cannon’s #20.

that’s it.
that’s the only one.

LSU has other numbers up in the Stadium, but only Cannon’s is retired an unavailable. People wear those other numbers every year.

nobody has worn 9 since Burrow, but nothing official from LSU making it off limits.

and even if nobody ever wears 9 again, well …. Joe has a Natty and a Heisman
Cannon has a Natty and a Heisman (not in same season, but he has both)

Jayden has a Heisman and opted out of a meaningless mid tier bowl.
