2025 tOSU Offense Discussion

I'm probably an outlier on this, but I don't know....there were some struggles with Will last year as he adapted to a new system. Will also missed a lot of throws, or ball placement wasn't great. I think Day was willing to sacrifice an NFL QB arm in Kyle McCord for the intangibles Howard brought to the table. As fun as Will was, there's a reason he was a 6th rd pick.......

Sayin has had a year in the system, and seen how the engine is supposed to run. I think that's a big deal. I think Sayin views the game more like Day as a pocket QB, so there may not be as much early season growing pains, IMO. I think Sayin is going to get the ball out quick and be pretty sharp.....may be some growing pains at times, but I think we should remember even Will had struggles last year.

I was one of the early nit-pickers on Will.

See here.

Post in thread 'QB1 Will Howard (National Champion, Pittsburgh Steelers)' https://buckeyeplanet.com/forum/thr...mpion-pittsburgh-steelers.678897/post-3773635

And his early problems showed up once the Bucks hit big 10 play as predicted. Tossing INTs against 6 of 9 B1G opponents, a pick six against Penn State and 2 against scUM.

Even with his first snap, Will had 2+ years of game starting experience over Sayin'.
You are correct that Justin had a full season to learn the offensive structure, language and time to begin building chemistry with his pass catchers and Oline.

I suppose I correlate the current QB situation to a certain phrase - "knowledge is when information meets experience"

Sayin has a ton of information I'm sure the coaching staff is preparing him to use. But he will not cultivate wisdom without starting experience.

Much like Howard did, I expect some early struggles. Although for different reasons.

Should semipro/college players be paid, or allowed to sell their stuff? (NIL and Revenue Sharing)

More like the lack of standards and control. Kids can make more in college than the NFL, then leave at the drop of a dime with no consequences. Fan bases with the biggest pocketbooks will soon run the show. School pride is already starting to fade and is being replaced with dollar signs. Ask Underwood his thoughts about going to Xichigan a year ago? What changed his mind since then? Sure wasn't the strong season they had. Loss of scholarships use to be a punishment, and scholarships use to be the payment for being a good athlete. Now none of that matters, because a non-scholarship player can still make millions from NIL. I'm sure there's more, but basically this fun game and sport has turned into more of a business than the NFL, and I stopped watching that years ago.
How has this been any different than past seasons? The only difference is now we actually know that players are getting paid, as opposed to just hearing rumors. Fan bases with deep pockets have ALWAYS run the show! When was the last time Purdue, Cincinnati, Arkansas, etc competed for a NC? For the past 20yrs, if you were to put money on OSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Bama, UGA, or Clemson, you would have guessed the national champion, how has that changed? You're acting like NIL and the Portal have made different teams contenders.
And heck, ask Eric Dickerson his thoughts on going to SMU as a HS senior, he was set to go to aTm. Hmmmm, what changed and made him go to SMU :roll1: ? And that was in the 80s!!! If you don't think OSU paid to land the signature of numerous players, than your head is in the sand. The game was always a business, just fans for some reason of college sports enjoyed being lied to for decades and wanted to think that every player that played for their school just loved to go there:facepalm:. Coaches have gotten a pass for, in your words having "lack of standards and control", they also can "leave at the drop of the dime with no consequences", but yet no one complains when Meyer just leaves a coaching job, or Manny Diaz leaves Temple after a few months, Cristobal leaves Oregon, Smart leaves Bama, Kiffin leaves... anywhere he wants, and the list goes on. But hey they're praised and used as examples of mentoring young men. CFB makes billions of dollars a year, the men who are actually playing deserve some of that. I'm sure no adult would tell their boss,"you know what, I just love working here, and I don't want a salary, just pay me my benefits". That's what you're asking these players to do. That thought process makes literally no sense to me, to ask young men who are making colleges and media companies BILLIONS, to make nothing. Just go to class, and you going to school should be enough, and you can't leave when you want(like your coach). SMH

Ohio State v Penn State

You ask, we answer. Sometimes we ask, others answer. And then other times, we ask, we answer.

Throughout the year, we will be asking and answering questions about various
Ohio State teams, the players, and anything else on our collective minds of varying degrees of importance. If you have a question that you would like to ask, you can tweet us @LandGrant33 or if you need more than 280 characters, send an email HERE.

We are smack dab in the middle of Game of the Year Week here at Land-Grant Holy Land. Our staff is examining Ohio State’s and college football’s schedules to identify interesting matchups every day this week. But now it’s your turn!

In our weekly fan survey, we are asking you two related, but fundamentally different questions. We want to know what regular-season game you think will be the most important for the Buckeyes this season, and which one will be the most entertaining.

I’ve included every game on the schedule as an option, so there is no need to write in additional choices this week, but if you want to make a case for your pick, feel free to do so in the comments at the bottom of the page.

Question 1: What do you think will be the most important regular-season game on Ohio State’s schedule?

There are so many great options to choose from for this question. Obviously, Texas, Penn State, and Michigan all jump to the front of mind, but there are some sneaky ones in the mix as well. Games like Illinois, Wisconsin, and Washington could all end up being even more important, because one or even two losses against the Longhorns, Nittany Lions, and Wolverines almost certainly don’t exclude OSU from the College Football Playoff, but coupled with a loss to the Illini, Badgers, or Huskies, and that could be a completely different proposition.

However, I do think that, for reasons that likely do not need explanation to anyone reading this, The Game has a significant, extra helping of importance this season. Ryan Day got the monkey off his back last season as he proved that he could win the big one, but now, there is a much bigger proverbial dragon sitting directly in his path at the end of this season’s journey.

I am already on record predicting an existential dread-free season for Day, so I do expect Ohio State to finally beat its rivals this year. However, the lead-up to that game will be contentious no matter what the two teams’ seasons look like up until that point, but if both teams are vying for a Big Ten Title Game berth, or a spot in the College Football Playoff, it might be hard for me to look anywhere else for a “most important game” designation.

Question 2: What do you think will be the most entertaining regular-season game on Ohio State’s schedule?

I like this question because it is really up to interpretation; whatever you consider an entertaining game is perfectly reasonable criteria. If a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair is what tickles your fancy, have your pick. If a defensive slugfest is more your style, choose accordingly. If you are more into the drama and buildup of a game, you’ve got plenty of options.

Whatever your individual criteria are, find the game that matches and vote in the survey right below this line.
