Deciding When to Retire

One other massive piece of advice for those planning for their financial futures. Never, and I mean NEVER, put more in your 401k than the amount you need to get the employer match. If you want to invest additional funds post tax, get yourself in a tax managed brokerage account. For reference, you will never have to worry about all the bullshit rules with RMD’s, etc. My account is managed by Fidelity. They typically achieve gains that exceed the indexes by a wide margin, and the tax harvesting algorithms usually produce a minimum 6 figure tax loss every year. It is life changing when you actually get to keep what you earn.

2026 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, Arrogant Twatwaffles, Emasculated Cucks, Feckless Marmots, Dirty Cheaters "Mid"chigan

We all saw it during the spring game. They can scream "you can't judge off a spring game" all they want but he looked like the exact same QB as last year mechanically. The foot work is still a disaster zero improvement there and he still throws every pass as hard as he can. At this point he's an over glorified temu version of Joe Milton
I was going to say his ceiling seems to be Denard Robinson

Bryce at this point seems like a classic case of a kid getting handed a bunch of money and everyone around him telling him how great he is (even when underperforming) then not actually putting any further work in because of that. scUM is the worst possible place for this kind of person considering the sunshine pumping factory up there
Fully agree! And with several million in his account, hes the king of the town.
Ill also add that similar arrogance has been shown from Jordan Marshall. But RB is a position that he can rely soly on athleticism and be fine. QB not so much

Deciding When to Retire

That might work if it wasn't for the pesky basket of goods you are trying to purchase increasing significantly faster.

$100 of medical care in 1980 = ~$800 today
$100 of tuition in 1980 = ~$1,280 today
~$64K house in 1980 = ~$400K today

Like I said in the post that started this, the math is working against people. If pay goes up 4x and the stuff you need to buy goes up 8-12x...you have a lot less room for error.

EDIT

This is just since 200 for a good quick visual. The mistake is to believe the fucking government about "core CPI" and think wages have done anything remotely close to keeping up.
L
So the real financial mistake people can make is not tattoos or pot. The mistake is getting sick, having kids, getting an education or trying to buy a house.

Electronics are depreciating though. So we've got that going for us. Which is nic
So, the math checks out, but the conclusion does not. So, 200% is 3x, which is exactly the additional amount deducted from our employees checks for PPO health insurance. $40 per pay period 25 years ago. $120 deducted from our employees’ checks today. However, the additional $80 is easily offset by the additional $800 in wages earned during that pay period. Same is true if saving for a child’s education. Enroll in a 529 and put $20 a week in the plan. Kids education paid in full by the time they are of age. The world is suffering from financial illiteracy, not lack of resources. That $30 a week for $4.4 million dollars still seems like world’s biggest no brainer to me!

WR Coach Cortez Hankton (Official Thread)

Fantastic Script! Thanks. Yeah, do see who got big bumps, and who got 'mere raises - $100,000!' for tOSU doing well. And surmise that a $1.8M salary can be tolerated without a raise, no? (anyone out there get a $100k bump during your career? I certainly did not). Different world. Cannot see Day getting NCOY or B10COY, as tOSU is 'expected' to be there each and every year. Oh well, as long as we get there....

Impending Assistant Coach Vacancies

Seem to recollect the fol-de-ra about hiring a guy, mainly to succeed LJsr, but after a couple of years (and LJ still going strong), he took the DL job at Texas (or somesuch). Don't get me wrong, LJ is the 'man', and still appears he's an attractive coach to all/most of the DL guys out there. Good for us. However, all good things must end, and am certain the up and comers will look at his legacy, and ask 'do I really want to follow that?' Guess Buckeye Nation will just have to wait and see, and hopefully enjoy having LJsr on the sideline for many years to come. Heck, if you enjoy what you're doing, and have your health, why not continue?

Cleveland Browns (Factory of Sadness)

Shedeur Sanders earns reported $17.7 million in licensing income in 2025, breaking Tom Brady's record

Shedeur Sanders is still battling to become the No. 1 quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, but he has already cemented himself as No. 1 in another area.

The Browns quarterback reportedly earned $17.7 million from NFLPA Group Licensing Income in 2025, per Front Office Sports.

To put into perspective how much money the then-rookie quarterback earned, the previous record was held by Tom Brady. The future Hall of Fame quarterback earned $9.5 million from the NFLPA Group Licensing Income in the 2021-2022 season.

Sanders surpassed Brady’s previous record by nearly doubling it. To further show how much the Browns QB earned, J.J. McCarthy led this metric for the 2024-2025 season, taking home $4 million.

All told for his rookie campaign, he finished with 1,400 passing yards, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Sanders started seven games with a 3-4 record.

Despite his career getting off to a slow start, the quarterback knew how to market himself, and he was a fan favorite in college thanks to his media presence and his signature celebration, which was mimicked across the sports and entertainment industries.

Concussions, CTE, and other traumatic brain injuries in football

Claude Lemieux's brain being donated for CTE research, family says

Claude Lemieux's brain is being donated to the Boston University CTE Center to research the long-term effects of repetitive brain injuries, his family said Saturday in a statement released by daughter Claudia Lemieux Bishop.

Lemieux died by suicide at age 60 on Thursday, according to authorities, after earlier in the week serving as the Montreal Canadiens' torchbearer before a playoff game. He played nearly 1,500 NHL games with six teams from 1983 to 2009 and was known for his hard-hitting style and ability to perform in big games on the way to winning the Stanley Cup four times.

The family said it gave the CTE Center permission to publicly share any findings with Lemieux's name, adding that no conclusions should be drawn regarding any diagnosis.

"Claude dedicated his post-playing career to helping the next generation," the family said, referring to Lemieux becoming an agent. "By allowing his name to be connected to this research, we hope his life can contribute to greater understanding, more honest conversations and better protection for athletes and families in the years ahead."

So things we can live without have gotten cheaper while necessities have gotten more expensive. Have the markets for necessities gotten less competitive while the markets for luxury goods have gotten more competitive? And if so, how do we restore competitiveness to these markets? Heath-care and education in particular seem to be, to use a technical term, out of wack.

Football, Futbol, Soccer, etc. (Official Thread)

UCL final going down to final extra time.

Come on PSG.
Watched this yesterday evening in a pub in Dublin. The vast majority of locals were pulling for PSG to repeat.

No surprise, since anything British still tends to not be favored here.

It was my 4th pub of the day, including the iconic tourist trap at The Temple Bar, but I wasn’t to the point of literally ‘crawling’.

MAC Conference Discussion

MAC adds Sacramento State as football-only member in 2026

The MAC presidents have voted to add FCS Sacramento State into the league as a football-only member starting in 2026.

Sacramento State will join the conference starting July 1, the school announced Tuesday.

The cost of entrance is expected to be $18 million, sources said, and a deal is expected to be announced in the upcoming days. All in, the total cost of entry is expected to be $23 million, as Sacramento State would also need to pay $5 million to the NCAA to move up.

This marks a significant move for Sacramento State, as it will be the first West Coast program to make the jump to the highest level of football in well over a generation.

I don't think @ Minnesota is a slam dunk for them either. They'll beat Rutgers Sparty and UCLA most likely but nothing else is going to be easy for them.
Just sayin': WMU and UTEP could be (not real difficult) wins too

BP Fantasy Baseball est. 2008 (Current Champion = Ahiacitian)

You know how you almost always leave a bunch of offense on the bench and it seems like they only hit when you don't start them? The baseball gods just fucking with you?

This year, my team is so fucking bad even the bench doesn't put up any offense. Think about that. They are so bad even the baseball gods are like "just leave the poor bastard alone."

This might very well be the worst fantasy baseball team ever assembled.

May I suggest you review the current standings? 11th place is 6.5 games from 7th place. I’m 10 games back of 11th place. I should start auctioning my players off for spare parts.

Deciding When to Retire

Going through this process now. Just turned 50 and next year is my year to qualify for state retirement. I can lock it in and come back to work..."double dip". However, I become at at will employee and can be dismissed at any time.

Definitely not ready to stop working but trying to figure out the best financial route.
If you still enjoy and are fulfilled with what you are doing, there is no reason to retire.
