Badger David Gilbert reportedly transferring to 'Canes

Badgerblitz.com is reporting that Wisconsin senior starting defensive end David Gilbert is transferring to Miami. He reportedly graduated in May and thus would be eligible to play for the Hurricanes this season, if that is indeed the case. (Again, no confirmation from UM at the time of this posting at 1:40 a.m.) [UPDATE THIS MORNING: UM expects Gilbert to end up with the Canes, but it's not yet official.] This would be a huge get for Miami, which needs help on the defensive line, provided he can stay healthy after a history of foot problems.

I think it's worth noting, that based on the early chatter (admittedly risky) it seems like Gilbert's foot is healing better than expected.

He’s essentially playing for his hometown team (less than an hour from Coral Gables) and he’d be returning to a 4-3 system. The way Wisconsin handled his leaving the program earlier in the spring — issuing a lengthy release, plus Andersen’s comments — seems to indicate they truly thought he was physically unable to play out the rest of his college football career.

Now that Bienema's gone, I'm having a hard time working up the hate for Wiscy anymore. Like the school; love Madison. Never had a problem with Barry...anyone who won't even give the domers an interview has to be somewhat OK. Didn't much care to see the parrot go, but que sirah.

I certainly prefer them in the West to the corn, St. Tom and Angry Bo.

Fuck that noise.

Barry takes a back seat in the little douche coupe to nobody. They were stomping logos and stealing shoes up there well before Bert lumbered his dumb ass onto the scene.

Zero respect for the program or the fans.

Bingo. Bert and that program have more in common than UW fans want to admit, now that Bert turned his back on the program for greener pastures. The two held hands for too long for anyone to believe now that UW is above engaging with the likes of someone like Bert and his antics. Bert and Barry are cut from the same cloth.

This is a little bit off. I think most UW fans tolerated him because he won (enough). There were far too many stories of his escapades at area bars for people to ever really latch on to him and accept him like he wanted to be. I think that's part of the reason he went to Arkansas - he was always mystified as to why UW fans wouldn't worship him. How he left town didn't endear him anymore either.

He's that guy. How many times do you imagine he slurred a drunken "do you know who I am!" to some poor girl who wanted nothing to do with him?

But I'm confused as to why a town full of drunken hooligans would look askance at one more being head coach.

That would be the student body, not the general population, but it's all relative.

Badgers QB Tanner McEvoy mugged
ESPN.com news services

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin quarterback Tanner McEvoy is back with the team after being mugged in Madison over the weekend.

The Badgers say McEvoy suffered minor injuries and his wallet, watch and iPhone were stolen early Sunday. He resumed team activities Monday.

"First and foremost we are happy that Tanner is physically ok after this attack," coach Gary Andersen said. "It's terrible to get a call about something like this but we are grateful the injuries were not serious."

The Badgers say police believe the mugging was random and are investigating.

According to the police report, McEvoy was struck in the head and had to be treated for two head cuts. Witnesses said they saw two males and two females near McEvoy. All four fled.

The attack comes nearly a year after then-Badgers running back Montee Ball was attacked as Ball was walking home with three friends in Madison. Ball suffered a concussion and says he doesn't remember the attack. Four men were charged in that attack.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
