I didn't know where else this belonged, so I thought I'd start a thread on UW's program. Apparently, Oregon St.'s Mike Riley and the Jacksonville DC are candidates for the HC job that Bielema left.

Both of those are good hires for Wiscy....Mel Tucker would be very interesting he coached some good ones (Doss Gamble) when he was at Ohio State and guys loved him

Ugh. Coaching searches = exhausting. Names pop up for a few days then get shot down, hundreds of unnamed "sources". I'll just throw out a bunch of names I've heard associated with this job.

Mike Riley (HC - Oregon State)
Mel Tucker (DC - Jacksonville Jaguars)
Paul Rhoads (HC - Iowa State)
Joe Rudolph (OC - Pitt)
Charlie Partridge (Co DC/DL coach - Wisconsin)
Matt Campbell (HC - Toledo)

Less likely:
James Franklin (HC - Vanderbilt)
Bob Diaco (DC - Notre Dame)

If coordinators w/o HC experience are considered, I always kind of liked Darrell Bevell to at least interview.

I'm assuming, Bevell would only leave Madison for an NFL job and he's young-ish. Problem being, he has zero HC experience and that's a biggie.

Bielema had none.

At least there would be plenty of eye candy among the coaches wives.

I think that as the days roll on, Diaco beomes more likely. Alvarez seems willing to take his time to get the guy he thinks is the right fit. Of course, that could also mean an NFL assistant that would be finishing his season in a few weeks.

The fan base is starting to get a little anxious, that's for sure. It's just so different than the coaching search that went down at Tennessee.

But like you said, I'm really starting to think Bob Diaco is the guy. The speculation around him at BC got awful quiet shortly after Bielema's departure. His recruiting and mind for defense seem to be off the charts. Obviously, as a defensive guy, he'd lean a lot on his OC, but nearly every young candidate is going to have a deficiency on one side of the ball.

You guys certainly do not want to take Tucker. He would be a very poor would be a very poor choice:wink: He does not know anything about offense and has lost all of his ties when it comes to recruiting. Spread the word.
