However, the biggest thing for non-native Oregonians is the inordinate amount of rain. You're looking at solid downpours from at least November (sometimes much earlier) through May and often into June.

Grey during the fall and winter that's an interesting concept.

It's not the same on the ground or in the sky. Seasonal Affected Depression doesn't hit people who live in the Midwest nearly as much as it does in the PNW. The sky is perpetually grey with very few intermittent breaks. When it snows (on the rare occasions), then it starts raining/drizzling again in short order.
The Midwest Winter while grey also has the clear, cold days where the sun breaks through for extended periods of time and the snow on the ground helps to reflect light directly and indirectly. It's a tremendous difference in lighting throughout the 8-9 months.
