QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

I hope I don't get a verbal beating for saying this... But I actually feel A LOT better about our QB posistion after seeing todays game.

Yes we played YSU, but I was happy with most Todds throws. I know he's been in the system for a few years..And I feel he's playing like it too!

For Example: The first drive was great, he looked fantastic. The play that most impressed me was his first TD, when he hit Dane on the post route.

He didn't stare down his reciever, instead he did an excellant job of holding the safety by looking to his left then coming back to his right to connect with Dane for 6. He did it perfect...it was a very "vertern" like throw!

I didn't get the feeling that I was watching a first year starter the entire time he was in. I really feel that Todd is going to shine this year...maybe not near as bright as Troy was... but, I really feel he's going to get the job done!

I just have a personal preference that I never doubt the talents and abilities of any player. In fact I always think of them as world beaters until they prove otherwise and that takes as much as 4 or 5 years sometimes. I have always thought of Todd as a rock solid, steady, confident kind of player that may make mistakes but doesn't get too rattled.
Today he just made me solidify that faith.

Impressive debut for Boeckman, but if the problem on the O-Line isn't fixed, he won't live to see a full season. He took three really good shots today, one on the sack/fumble, and two more where he was drilled after releasing the ball. That needs to get fixed. Quick.

Where's cory204? :tongue2:

Seriously, I don't think we could've asked for a much better debut from Boeckman, especially since he was rotating out during the game - it had to be a little tougher to establish a rhythm. I think we've got a good one on our hands. I think the fact that he's basically been in the program for five years now is going to show itself and pay dividends throughout the season. He had a very solid debut - and not the fool's gold kind of debut that Steve Bellisari had to wrestle the job away from Austin Moherman.

I would be surprised if we see him anytime soon. I imagine crow doesn't taste too good .

Bob Hunter commentary: Boeckman shows leadership skills

On the night before his first game as Ohio State's starting quarterback, Todd Boeckman was assigned a room with fifth-year senior Kirk Barton by the OSU coaches.

It seems ingenious. Barton, the offensive tackle who was making his 30th start, could serve as the voice of reason. He could calm Boeckman down, tell him what to expect, give him a little primer on OSU traditions.
"I told coach (Jim) Tressel my favorite Ohio State tradition," Barton said. "My freshman year, when (we) went to the hotel at night after the final chapel and final meeting, they had a snack bag for you that had Wendy's double cheeseburgers. We always joked that we won the national title on Wendy's double cheeseburgers. They got rid of it after that year and we kind of had to start our own little secret society to keep the tradition alive."

COLUMBUS

There was little doubt in Todd Boeckman's mind that he was going to be perfect Saturday. The 23-year-old Ohio State quarterback waited four years for this moment.

As Boeckman ran onto the field at Ohio Stadium to start a season of many questions for the Buckeyes, he could barely hear the ovation from 105,038 because he felt like he was walking on clouds.
