QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

Don't have to be respectful, it's just a horrible take.

McCord has been in this system to long to struggle that much. I will concede that he didn't have the stud WRs, but he didn't look like he had an arm anywhere near as strong as Strouds and his legs didnt impress. So if Brown can run better, maybe he should start.
So by your example of struggling in a Spring game, would mean that Fields struggling in his 1st game would mean that he should've been a pretty bad OSU QB(4-13 131yds TD vs 18-34 184yds TD)... And like @gmen6981 stated, QBs can't scramble in Spring games due to risk of injury. Day has put 3 QBs in the 1st round, I think he would play the best QB, and that QB would be able to do everything needed to succeed in this offense.

And if you're going solely by Spring games for your justification on who should start at QB, what would you think about the QB line in the 2021 spring game(Stroud 16-22 185 yards and 2TDs. While McCord 12-17 184 yards 2TDs). This year many fans(check the posts) clamored for McCord by game 2, and no one complained about his arm, they actually complained about Strouds. Btw, the comp by fellow BPers when McCord committed was, Baker Mayfield(check pages 3 and 6 of this thread). A guy who can throw, and move the pocket and extend plays, so you know someone who's athletic and able to run. Let's relax and not be so ready to play with the new shiny toys

We saw Day hold the line for Stroud early his first season when much of the base was calling for McCord. That switch was never going to happen. Somehow, though, I don't see the same dynamic this year. McCord will likely get first crack at it, but I don't see Day dying on that hill. If it's rocky, Brown will get a shot at it. I don't know that McCord isn't a gamer, but I do know that there's such a thing. Things are just different when real punches are being thrown. Brown may have it. I don't know that not beating out Stroud means that McCord doesn't have it, but I do know that if he definitely did, he would've.

I saw a stat last week that CJ, when blitzed last year, had 17 TDs and 1 INT. It’ll be tough to be in the same hemisphere on that stat in 2023.
I wonder what that stat would be for CJ in 2021 when it was his 1st year starting. I can see Kyle closer to that, than the magic we saw last year

That is a sick whip. I hope there isn't a clause in there that requires him to remain the starter, that would be some pressure for me because I would never want to give that car up haha. But side note - these car deals are leases right? Thought I read that and it would make sense, not sure you give a $126k car to a player that hasn't won the starting job yet.

My buddy's wife totaled his 2020 version one night couple years ago. I would've died shortly after the divorce

CJ Stroud was such an accomplished player and passer (maybe the best pure passer in OSU history) by the time he left that I hope that everyone will allow Kyle to grow as a QB.
With that being said, Kyle has paid his dues and put in the work and should be more prepared than CJ was when he started.
That, plus an exceptional running game should lead to a successful year for Kyle.

This. Kyle has put in the work and had an incredible HS career, all the while throwing to our best WR on the roster. He has a lot of experience in our system and knows the offense. Expect a learning curve to start, but I have a lot of confidence in Kyle to lead this team assuming he wins the job...it will be battle with Brown this summer but I think Kyle's experience and rapport with the WRs wins out ultimately.

To your point, I hope fans will let him grow into the spot. Many fans were initially very impatient with Stroud and it was tough to be around. I'm hoping there is not a repeat here.

I hear you, but college players are no longer protected by the notion that they're amateurs. I've never booed an Ohio State player, but then I've never known an Ohio State player who made enough money to drive an MB GT. NIL is going to change the attitudes of the crowds in many stadiums this year.

We all know the same people who were calling for Stroud to be benched after the Oregon game will be back again if there’s anything less than video game stats being put up on the field.

Those fans, or least the ones I ran into, were out in full force against Minnesota in the season opener (though it got worse after Oregon). Then at the Akron game, people were very harsh on McCord despite being the same ones likely calling for him to come in for CJ. I know there are fickle fans in every fanbase, I just hope it is not as bad this time. Or ideally Kyle could just kill it and there's no room for criticism

I’m getting too old and cynical, I realize, but I get the impression that it will be worse this time around because the mystique of Devin Brown as a “more mobile” option is already well established in the minds of most fans.

He's going to get exactly 3 games of rope before the vicious idiots are out for blood. If he's not looking very good by ND, they'll be screaming for someone else
