QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

I have 3 kids and no money instead of no kids and 3 money, but I'll take the over. I'm also banking on the defense taking a leap and the running game carrying the offense. At least to begin the year. I just don't see Wisconsin or Notre Dame having the offense to put up enough points. Split the PSU and TTUN games and 11 wins seems right.
Banking on the running game after the past two years is a dangerous proposition.

Out of all the concerns I have for OSU…they absolutely positively NEED to reestablish a dominant run game. third and short needs to be automatic. how they’ll do that with a makeshift O line, I dont know.

Maybe we could get the elitist pricks to set up a vbet so no one is out any real money.

-I see 2 of the 50/50 games (ND, Wisky) on the road and don't think we are taking both of them.
-I definitely have no faith in Day against tsun at this point
-Penn State is always a war no matter where it's played
-I also see the "@" symbol in front of Purdue so I don't see how anyone just chalks that up as a W no matter how bad Purdue is.
-Wisconsin may not be what they used to be or whatever that means (neither will OSU be) but they are also in the annual post PSU let down spot
-IU is awful but they are also a B1G opponent on the road for a season opener when we are breaking in the new OL and QB. It will be harder than we want it to be for longer than is comfortable.
-I'll believe Knowles and the defense carry us to anything against an average to good offense when I see it.

Everyone will have their own opinions. These are the reasons for mine. That's why I suggest a bet to head off the endless debate. Put money (or something you don't want to lose) up if people believe in what they are saying. If this was a sports book and I could get the under (a 2 loss season or worse) at even money or better I'd take it in a heartbeat if I'm just playing to win.

All of this relates back to McCord in that I see a big step back at QB and OL at this point and that( if true) is going to put an OSU team on the field that really isn't like what people are used to seeing and, therefore, is at risk of losing to teams that you normally wouldn't think they are at risk of losing to. See 2004. Sometimes you just lose too much and the schedule doesn't allow an easy break in period.
I wholeheartedly disagree with your IU prediction

I see people mistakenly thinking all is well just because we curb stomp a shitty conference opponent on the road

I could see the 2023 squad being like TN and winning the NC the year after Manning left. We've got, hopefully, a hungry and better defense in its second year with Knowles, we are deep and better than solid, and possibly brilliant depending on Henderson, at RB, we've got receivers to help make McCord or Brown better, and, at least until we see differently, better than decent QBs. Beat scum and all is possible with the playoff, even if we drop an early one.

Maybe I have a case of selective memory, but I feel like the running game was fine when any of the running backs were healthy and the staff wasn't purposely running them into brick walls to try and prove a point. Assuming that we get healthier versions of the backfield and the staff has hopefully learned a lesson, I think we could see a very strong running game this year.

Damn, it just hit me while re-watching him Kyle - The backfoot drag looks like Boeckman, the pre-pass mechanics (ball chest height with elbows down) looks like J.T. and the follow through in the upper body looks like Scotty Mick from back in the day. I'm one of the youngest people on this board, but I know somebody else here has to remember McMullen besides myself?

edit: Go back to that 2nd half and tell me I'm losing my mind.

Exactly. Problem is there is definitely some worry that we get to that point again, the "lets keep doing this when its not working to try to prove it can work eventually!" point.

I think IU is a mid major type of team but turnovers are the great equalizer and this kid is more TO prone than Stroud. The OL isn't going to help.

Any conference opponent can bite you if you turn it over too many times especially at night, on the road. That is why I am saying that some of these sneaky tough games may be tighter than people think. I am anticipating a turnover prone offense, especially early.

Out to dinner with our IU friends. Talked about the game tonight. Will be in attendance for the game with them. God willing it is a Long Ass Ride Home for them.
