I think it was made perfectly clear to McCord and his dad that OSU was going to the portal to get a QB. McCord allegedly insisted on playing his freshman season and burned his redshirt, making this season his only opportunity to start. Hedging his bets, and not wanting to compete, he chose the portal himself.

I don't have hard feelings about him leaving, and don't think he screwed OSU over. My personal feeling is that I didn't think he gave OSU the best chance to win a natty. Howard without a doubt is better equipped to run Chip's offense

I wish him well through clenched teeth because of the bowl game. Finish out with your teammates, then make the move even if everyone knows you're making it. So can't say I take delight in it, but your Seinfeld GIF pretty much describes my feelings.
