Notre Dame (football only discussion)

I think it's pretty obvious that my beloved bulldogs aren't playing in the BCS NC game this year, but if we win out and lose to Bammer in the SECCG, we have the inside track for the Sugar Bowl.

I'd like to play the Irish in that matchup.

I'm not sure how'd I'd feel about playing you guys in a BCS bowl, I hadn't given it any thought yet. At this point I've been assuming Murphy's Law will come into effect and all 4 top teams somehow go undefeated...in a year where the playoff system isn't in effect. In which case, I imagine the voters leave the teams where they're at and the Irish end up in the Fiesta Bowl or other match.

I guess among the SEC canidates that aren't Alabama, I'd prefer to face Florida if we're strictly talking 1 loss teams or better. LSU I think we'd hold to little or no points given that their offense is pretty crummy, but I think the Irish offense wouldn't fare much better against that D. Georgia is kind of balanced though with good defense and decent offense...would be interesting I think. I think a lot of it would come down to how well the Bulldogs throw the ball.

I doesn't matter to me how bad some other chump team would get drubbed by Alabama... I just don't want Notre Dame anywhere near that game.

I don't care about having an interesting or entertaining BCSNCG. That's what the other 350,000 bowl games are for. I'll gladly endure a [Mark May]ty matchup in the Big One if it means we avoid all the weeks of hype and genuflecting toward Notre Dame for the benefit of their plastic fans.

Feel keep hoping to not see Oregon or K-State make the title game though if you have the stomach for Rudy marathons and subway alum opinions though. Me - I'd rather sit thru three hours of ugly uniforms and lousy defense than six weeks of that other bull[Mark May].

Absolutely! And I don't want their fucking linebacker to win the Heisman either! The domer beast coming back to life really, really sucks. Some of you are probably too young to remember the domer resurgence when Holtz took over. You do NOT want a strong Notre Dame.

My one hope that this is just a temporary fluke. This entire season will end up being nothing more than a gigantic cock tease to the domers, and they'll go back to 7-5 seasons next year.

I am 48, so I remember stupid ND crap before Holtz. There is a reason why I want scUM to beat ND when they play and it has nothing to do with Big Ten allegiance and everything to do with my hatred for all things ND.

Yes I have been to the ND campus, hell I have even attended a graduation ceremony there. I simply can't stand anything associated with that place mainly due to unprecedented levels of arrogance, much that is based in myth.

I could really go on a rant here, and I feel it boiling to the surface, but I am giving a Calc I exam and am technically in work safe mode and my rant would be so edited as to be equivalent to BWI gibberish.

I'm just old enough to remember the tail end of the span where they were good under Holtzsh.

They've made movies about stuff like this. Notre Dame is an ancient relic with sucks at football and has tremendous evil powers. Back in the day, great people like Bob Davie and Tyrone Willingham went to great lengths to bury it so we would never have deal with it again. Time passes though (lots and lots of time) and people forget why Notre Dame was there and what it was for. They begin to unearth it, thinking it to be interesting and harmless. Before you know it, we are all being slaughtered and the Earth is in ruins.

They need to be stopped again before it's too late.

I'm 55 and can remember clearly when Notre Dame highlight were shown on TV in Youngstown the Sunday morning after their game in the late '60s and early '70s. I got to see Ohio State maybe twice during the season if I were lucky, but got to see Notre fucking Dame every week thanks to Youngstown's huge Catholic population and strong ties with Notre Dame.

I'm in my 40s, but I remember those days, too.

ND is going to stumble and bumble their way into the NC game, getting "help" when needed (like today).

The only question is their opponent.

The sad truth is that this is probably not a fluke.

As much as we like to make fun of ol' purple face, I remember plain as day that when he took the job, Jax' said that under him Notre Dame would be "a handful" again both in recruiting and on the field. I don't recall anyone here disagreeing with him.

Which is why I'm a huge Alabama fan the rest of the way out. The domers could have a shot against Oregon or K-State, but I think that Saban "The Merciless" will break a plunger off in them.

If they do make the game, we sure as hell can't have them winning it.
