Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Wolverine hate is icing on the cake this season, heres some more

Nothing is worse than seeing one of your rivals win, except when they keep winning and aren't THAT good. Don't get me wrong, OSU 2002 and Notre Dame 2012 are solid teams with great defenses, but both are eerily similar in their ability to win so many close games and never appearing to be dominant.
Just like OSU 2002, Notre Dame is having one of those magical years where every call, turnover, break, big play, and general karma seems to be going in their favor. While their defense is stellar and overall team is solid, nobody would believe that they are the best team in the country....but they keep winning, and that is all that matters.
At this point, who knows what will happen. OSU lucked into the 2002 championship game and beat a much better Miami team. It would suck if Notre Dame did the same and knocked off an Alabama, LSU, or Oregon.
We played both Alabama and Notre Dame, andwith some degree of certainty can acknowledge that Alabama is in a different class. That being said, ND is one big win (USC) away from a date in the national title game, and at that point anything can happen. Really annoying when a rival has a magical year....Even more annoying when you know they arent't that good. Shit, had Denard not turned the ball over 5 times, we would have beat that team.

Oh, and muck Fichigan. :wink2:

Used to seeing LSUFreek make fun of teams, and the Irish are often an easy target because of their blunders, so this was a surprise. Well, maybe it's still poking fun a bit, I dunno, I just found it funny.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Oregon's D is on a whole other level compared to previous versions. Their DE's would give Bama's OT's fits.

We've been through this before. Oregon's defense will reveal its
True nature when they play a competent offensive opponent with
A decent oline. We'll see your tune when they finish the regular season.

Let's revisit this topic then.

I don't get it; why is Hoke standing on the other side laughing?

Neither KState or Oregon has the TV appeal that an Alabama - ND game holds.

I absolutely disagree. People would love to see Oregon and Alabama...the #1 scoring offense against the #1 total defense. On the other hand, an Alabama - Notre Dame matchup would feature that same #1 'Bama defense against a shit Domer offense (while it would be interesting to see how much ND could slow down 'Bama's offense).

Notre Dame's 30-13 Saturday night win at Oklahoma drew the biggest college football television audience of the season.

I completely agree that Oregon-Alabama would hold tremendous interest for football fans. On the other, this year's re-aminated corpse of Notre Dame's past glory has a big following. Plus there is a large contingent who would love to watch them fail.

I think it'd be funny if Alabama somehow lost to LSU this week, and then Oregon dropped a game in November so K State and the Irish end up in the championship. No one would have predicted that match up at the beginning of the season, plus it would be nice not to have an SEC team in there for a change.

Yeah, it will be really exciting watching them lay another egg against a good defense in a BCS bowl.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me, what is it? 3 times now? shame on me.

No kidding. I was unfortunate enough to overhear some ESPN discussion on the topic one Saturday morning and they prefaced it with "well, we know the SEC gets one team in, so who will be the second team?"

A one loss SEC team deserves to be in front of any undefeated non-SEC team [/Gary Danielson]

Like the Arizona team that has scored 39, 52, 48, 35, 56, 59, and 24 points in their other games but was shutout by Oregon?

Oregon's schedule:
Arkansas St 57-34 (50-3 with 7:30 left in the 2nd quarter)
Fresno State 42-25 (35-6 at the half)
Tennessee Tech 63-14 (35-7 at the half)
Arizona 49-0 (13-0 at the half)
Wazzou 51-26 (23-19 at the the half)
Washington 52-21 (35-7 at the half)
ASU 43-21 (43-7 at the half)
Colorado 70-14 (56-0 at the half)

The only game in which they have given up more than 10 points while the game was in jeopardy was the 19 allowed in the first half against WSU. And held them to just one more score the rest of the way.

They may not be Alabama on defense, but Oregon is not a bad defensive team, in my IMO.
