Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Like the Arizona team that has scored 39, 52, 48, 35, 56, 59, and 24 points in their other games but was shutout by Oregon?

They may not be Alabama on defense, but Oregon is not a bad defensive team, in my IMO.

I also don't think the Ducks are a bad defensive team; however, the Arizona game isn't the best representation of that aside from the score. The Arizona QB got knocked out of that one early, and the offense looked inept without him running it. I believe that Arizona blew 6 chances in the red zone during that game. It was ugly. Now, that could very well have been due to the Oregon defense (to a point).

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Oregon's schedule:
Arkansas St 57-34 (50-3 with 7:30 left in the 2nd quarter)
Fresno State 42-25 (35-6 at the half)
Tennessee Tech 63-14 (35-7 at the half)
Arizona 49-0 (13-0 at the half)
Wazzou 51-26 (23-19 at the the half)
Washington 52-21 (35-7 at the half)
ASU 43-21 (43-7 at the half)
Colorado 70-14 (56-0 at the half)

The only game in which they have given up more than 10 points while the game was in jeopardy was the 19 allowed in the first half against WSU. And held them to just one more score the rest of the way.

They may not be Alabama on defense, but Oregon is not a bad defensive team, in my IMO.

Three-loss (5-3 to be precise) Arizona is the only ranked team on that list.

I doesn't matter to me how bad some other chump team would get drubbed by Alabama... I just don't want Notre Dame anywhere near that game.

I don't care about having an interesting or entertaining BCSNCG. That's what the other 350,000 bowl games are for. I'll gladly endure a shitty matchup in the Big One if it means we avoid all the weeks of hype and genuflecting toward Notre Dame for the benefit of their plastic fans.

Feel keep hoping to not see Oregon or K-State make the title game though if you have the stomach for Rudy marathons and subway alum opinions though. Me - I'd rather sit thru three hours of ugly uniforms and lousy defense than six weeks of that other bullshit.

Compared too? How bad their previous squads have been?? That isn't saying much. I still stand by my statement.
Wait until the rest of the schedule plays out. Perhaps not even that far. Let's see how they fare against Lee & Woods.

I absolutely disagree. People would love to see Oregon and Alabama...the #1 scoring offense against the #1 total defense. On the other hand, an Alabama - Notre Dame matchup would feature that same #1 'Bama defense against a shit Domer offense (while it would be interesting to see how much ND could slow down 'Bama's offense).
from a football fan's point of view I agree with you, but if I'm ESPN I want the TV market and that belongs to ND.

Well said.

Same here. I also want to point out that Urban started the SEC dominance way back in 2007, and I want Urban to END the SEC dominance in 2014. I want SEC to win this year, though I want another school (not 'Bama) to win it all this year.

Wake Up, Notre Dame! - YouTube

Haha, got a kick out of this. I've never heard of this guy before, but I was just watching his other videos. Heres a few, some aren't safe for work...and you may need to be high to enjoy a few.

I don't know what it is about this one, if it's the 70s music or the dancing Bobcat, but I love it

"I would penalize Notre Dame for not playing in a conference championship. So after Alabama, my first nod would be to Oregon, since its conference has earned respect, then Kansas State and only then Notre Dame."

I'm not going to nit-pick the logic. It doesn't necessarily fly with me, but if that's your opinion, then let it float your boat. But how do you put Kansas State ahead of Notre Dame, then? Kansas State wouldn't get the same penalty for not playing in a conference championship game?

It's pretty clear what he's saying: "SEC! SEC! SEC! Alabama is awesome! SEC!" Now, when it comes to ranking the other three teams, he has to figure out a way to get people to focus on him and his message. As has been posted on Buckeye Planet many times (no, I'm not going to provide any links), one way to get people to read your article, or hear your interview, or smell your shoes, is to piss them off. Between Kansas State, Oregon, and Notre Dame, which fan base do you piss off in order to get them to hear your message? I'll give you a hint: it rhymes with "bloater trame". Ok, so #1 is Alabama ("SEC! SEC! SEC!"), and #4 is Notre Dame. #2 and #3 - does it really matter which is which? Not really, but let's rationalize my #1 and #4 picks with something the SEC has been sucking themselves dry with since the 90's: conference championship game. SEC has one, Notre Dame doesn't. Since Oregon has one, let's put them at #2, leaving #3 to be Kansas State.

As far as I'm concerned, he can rank the 14 SEC teams all in the top 10, somehow. I'm sure someone has done that before. Fail to rank Notre Dame at all. I don't care what someone says about ranks. But at least be consistent with your reasoning.
