Notre Dame (football only discussion)

In the second overtime, and with a chance to kick a game-winning field goal after forcing and recovering a fumble at the goal line on Notre Dame?s possession, Pittsburgh?s Kevin Harper missed a 33-yarder wide to the right after a high snap. The Fighting Irish sent junior cornerback Bennett Jackson and freshman wide receiver Chris Brown ? both of whom wear No. 2 ? out on defense by mistake.
?No exception to [the rule],? Kelly said. ?It was a coaching mistake. We had put our ?desperado? team out there and Chris Brown is part of ?desperado.? We?ve got to do a better job ? an oversight that can?t happen.?
Kelly said he didn?t know that his team had committed an infraction until after the play, which should have resulted in a live-ball foul, and a five-yard penalty and a first down for the Panthers at the Irish 11-yard line.
?You have to inform [officials] procedurally of that,? Kelly said. ?Just bad coaching. We have an easy way for us to make sure that this doesn?t happen again. They won?t be on the field again [simultaneously]; it?s on me now, so I?m going to make sure it doesn?t happen.?

I think it's pretty obvious that my beloved bulldogs aren't playing in the BCS NC game this year, but if we win out and lose to Bammer in the SECCG, we have the inside track for the Sugar Bowl.

I'd like to play the Irish in that matchup.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with either points. If you beat Bama and one of KSU and Oregon loses, I could definitely see UGA jumping ND. On the flip side, I could see Florida getting the nod over UGA assuming UGA loses to Bama in the SEC Championship. It's almost the exact same situation as when Michigan went to the Sugar Bowl over MSU. The only question is, who would the Sugar Bowl rather have? UGA or Florida?

The sad truth is that this is probably not a fluke.

As much as we like to make fun of ol' purple face, I remember plain as day that when he took the job, Jax' said that under him Notre Dame would be "a handful" again both in recruiting and on the field. I don't recall anyone here disagreeing with him.

the sad truth is that they are not all that great offensively with 4 senior starters on the OL, and 2 senior rb's and a senior all american tight end. their front 7 on defense is tough, but the secondary is suspect. couple that with some unreasonably ridiculous calls that basically gifted them 2 wins. I'll need to see ND prove that this isn't 2002 all over before I worry about it.

My point wasn't that ND is everything that people say they are this year; it is that they are better under ol' purple face than they've been in a long time, and they're likely to keep improving.

Notre Dame's offensive line has been much improved under Kelly, it was horrible under Weis and not much better if not worse under Willingham. They're actually running the ball very well on most teams, but the passing game has been pretty bad at times. The other issue is turnovers. While the Irish have improved since last year, they're still starting a redshirt freshman at QB. Golson has looked well away from South Bend, but he seems to struggle at home. QB was the big question on offense last year, and it's still the position that has struggled the most. On the plus side Golson has been able to make some plays with his feet, something that Rees doesn't have going for him.

I would rather have Notre Dame win it all then Alabama repeat.

There, I said it.

1. Alabama doesn't live in our neighborhood, doesn't recruit Ohio very much, gets very little media love compared to....

2. Notre Dame which owns the Chicago media market when doing good, recruits the shit out of Ohio, plays a minimum of two Big 10 schools every year making comparison to OSU inevitable.

3. Alabama fans are ignorant, inbred pig fuckers who need football to retain any sense of personal or state wide worth, most of whom just got past 8th grade.

4. Notre Dame fans are obnoxious, pretentious sheep fucking assholes, oblivious to what you say about them, most of whom went to another school because they couldn't afford Notre Dame.

5. Have I failed to insult both schools/fan bases enough?

Nonetheless, I'd rather deal with another Alabama NC than ND even getting to the dance.

I was talking about all of the SEC fan base combined.

You know the ND hype is out of control when they're hyping up the game with an awful team like BC.

But...but...this is the "Holy War!" :wink2:

BC loves to spoil our good seasons though, I'll say that much. While this current Eagles team is horrible this season, they've played us close in past games and they ended up ending our perfect seasons in 2002 and '93...so it seems every 10 years or so they're ripe for the big upset.

I haven't seen much from Boston College this year to suggest they give Notre Dame an extreme challenge this weekend. Of course everybody said the same thing about Pitt also. Can't believe the weak schedule of games this week. Why can't Texas A&M and Bammer be the 8pm national game instead of these guys?
