Notre Dame (football only discussion)

My dream outcome for this season has been for OSU to be the only unbeaten team in the country. That remarkable outcome is now a very real possibility.

I can even live with rooting for USC and letting the SEC and Saban back in the mix.

Maybe we will all get lucky and Mark Richt will win his first NC. If the domers can win that one let them have it (I don't think they can).

And a special thank you to Pat Haden who tonight announced that Lane Kiffin - who guided the preseason #1 team to a minimum 4 loss season - will definitely be back next year. No other coach could so woefully squander such grand talent. We love you Lane.

My miracle scenario would be an '07, when the BCS title went to a two loss team. This would happen if:

Georgia losses to GT and Florida to FSU. Georgia beats 'Bama in the SEC title game and goes on to win the BCS title game.

Ideally, it would be nice if the opponent also had two losses. But with ND having only one game left on the schedule this is not possible. So again, I'm hoping for Georgia and UF to both lose next week, then Georgia beating 'Bama and ND losing to USC. If that were to happen, OSU's got a shot at the AP.

Folks, get ready with the KY jelly- unless USC pulls off some sort of life saving upset we are about to be treated to 5 weeks of old style Notre Dame media blitz... and if they should pull off an upset of either SEC team in the BCS...

Who cares? They'll get trounced in the title game.

As I said last night - we are exactly one week away from being able to ignore anything about college football until LOI day. I can't possibly be "blitzed" if I'm not paying attention.

Exactly. For those on BP who can't handle the ND coverage, just turn off your TV until the day of the title game--anything you see will please you, I'm sure.

You can live in a the-only-thing-that-counts-is-OSU bubble, but when Teo walks off with the Butkus and the Heisman, when ND is the only team in the NC game that doesn't have to play a CCG to get there, when Golson gets pushed for the 2013 Heisman and when the Buckeyes get screwed on a major bowl assignment because of Notre Dame's TV power you can think back to this post.

Maybe it takes being a geezer who remembers what it was like in the era when ND was relevant and Paul Hornung received a Heisman though he played on a losing team to understand just what you are about to experience.

USC can beat Notre Dame if they don't beat themselves or let Kiffen beat them.

Are you aware that this whole no CCG argument that you're hanging your hat on applies equally to all Big 12 teams? I somehow doubt you were whining as much when KSU was #1 just a week ago. More likely, it is that you're still angry about something as stupid as who won the Heisman almost 60 years ago, and it's clouding your ability to see things in an unbiased way in 2012.

Notre Dame offensive opponent ranks out of 120: 12, 58, 65, 67, 70, 75, 85, 94, 98 & 117. AWFUL offenses. Defense = overrated.

Who was #12?

Of the teams they played, it has to be either Oklahoma (who they held to 13 points) or scUM (who can't possibly be 12th in the nation on offense).

Is the defense a fraud? Probably. But Oklahoma's offense is pretty good obviously.

Or maybe those of us who aren't geezers have realized the environment in the media and the college football world is completely different from when Hornung won the Heisman or when Ntre Ame dominated the media. There's a lot more of a focus on a much larger group of teams now.

It's as easy as turning off the TV.

Because KSU football is not Notre Dame. Bill Snyder is not Knute Rockne, Frank Leahy, Ara or Lou. If it were not for the teams walking away from the Texas football network there would be a Big 8/10/12/10 CCG.

Let Notre Dame be relevant for five years and you'll soon see what I'm talking about.

Perhaps, but I just don't want to find out the hard way that cinci is right. Look at fricking Teo. He's probably going to walk away with the Heisman for the sole reason that he's the best player on an undefeated ND team.

Shit, Spielman and Marek used to have more tackles before the other team was done running out of the tunnel than this clown, but they were never Heisman finalists.

Maybe it's me, but the hype around Teo seems to have faded a bit. Either way, I don't think he's winning the Heisman this year.

I'm aware. Different eras in CFB though. The point being is the best thing that could have happened for Braxton was Klein losing a game. If Braxton goes off against scUM, I think he's right there. And I think Tajh Boyd will get more love here in the coming weeks.
