LaTwan Anderson (official thread)

These are 17-18 year old kids that often times are not mature enough to realize the consequences of what they say or do and may not get the guidance and support that many of us on this site may have been afforded at that age. So whatever his reasons were for announcing to WVU on TV I try to take these things into consideration.
That being said, the recruiting philosophy of this staff is to take those kids that want to be Buckeyes in every sense. This doesn't always work out the way we like but no one can deny that it has worked out for the most part under the JT era. This kid doesn't seem to fit that philosophy....I see too many red flags here. The best thing to do here is wish him well and move on. It would appear the staff has already done that with the offer to Roby.

Well said. The only thing I would add is IF the staff gives him the opportunity to become a Buckeye in the next few days and he accepts then I will pull for him to be successful. If not I wish him well where he goes and probably won't give him another thought.

I missed "the spectacle". All I remember is watching a kid who looked like he was either very nervous or not thrilled with his own selection put on a West Virginia hat. I don't recall him showing up any other teams.
LaTwan Anderson has had some difficult times and debatable decisions. The last one, on TV, is the least of the concerns. But he didn't HAVE to do anything at the game...he chose to. Eventually, he'll need to either make better choices or accept the consequences.

I'll do the ol' "trust the coaches" on this one, but I can absolutely see why the staff would move on and having Roby is alright by me.

In my opinion, some of the comments here relative to whether or not Anderson "deserves a Buckeye offer" tread pretty close to board violations on BP. They make me pretty uncomfortable.

"Trust the coaches" sounds like good advice to me. Their judgment is far better than that of any message board poster.

If LA or somebody on his behalf is making a last ditch pitch for a spot for LA, the first question I have is what so drastically changed from the TV appearance and his statements about OSU immediately afterward and today that warrants a 2nd look by the staff?

"Trust the Coaches" is always the bottom line. They know much more than we do. In a number of Tress' recruiting classes there have been "risk" kids. Some turned out to be a Heisman Trophy winner, or help win a NC. Others ended up dropping out or transferring. Even with the "no risk" kids, there is never a sure thing.

The Coaches will look at every angle and make the decision that is best for the team. We can have confidence in that fact, and, support their decision, whatever it may be.

Why would a player want to come and play for a team, after reading what many of you have to say?

Their just kids and we all make mistakes. Too many people on this thread have commitment issues.

I hope we land Latwan and he grows into an excellent young man.

If not, good luck, life will continue and we will continue to win either way.

a mistake ? Folks make it sound like this was a spontaneous decision that LA made in the heat of the moment. No. It was calculated. It was LA's way of exerting power over the situation...and in his own way his power over either OSU or WVU. This was not done in a vacuum. It was done by LA knowing full well that Tressel and the assistant coaches that spent a TON of time with LA and Glenville would be watching. I would hope that LA is already embarrassed about it.

And if LA was so sheepish about it then, then that makes all the worse in some ways. It tells me that he KNEW it was a lame thing to do yet he did it anyway.

I never said it was the worst thing he could have done. I'll support him 100% as a Buckeye should he choose to reverse and come to OSU. I recall many similar events in which the recruit was far lower in class than LA was about how they announced. PSU recruit Logan was one of the worst. He verballed to Ralph Friedgen of Maryland and asked him to be there for the announcement 24 hours later....and Friedgen and his assistants were all there at the ESPN Zone in Baltimore....several with their wives as well. And Logan dropped the bomb on them in person that he had reversed and was going to PSU. Shameful.

But I will go on record and say that the producers of these high school AA games that condone this type of public announcement are pure scum. That's right. These scumbags tell the kids to do it and possibly even make them do it if they want to be invited to the game. It breeds a culture of total disrespect and entitlement.

I wish Latwan luck whatever he does and hope that he's already learned a valuable lesson...that you don't have to be a manipulative jerk to gain respect or notoriety.

I think everyone in here realizes that they don't make the decisions for tOSU, so I don't think they have commitment issues. The comments about Anderson are fair as his choices, whether a young man or not, are his choices. The comments in here reflect the concern over his choices thus far.

Anderson seems to have a great deal of talent, but I'm not going to lose any sleep if the staff decides they've met their needs elsewhere.

A little harsh, no? How do you, or any of us for that matter, know that WVU didn't tell him that he had to commit before a certain time to save a spot? It most likely didn't happen that way, but who knows. A "spectacle" is a bad choice of words. In no way did he throw a hat or anything, he just looked down and grabbed the WVU hat. Some of you are so uptight that you wouldn't know fun if it put sour cream on your baked potato. Simmer down.

Obviously, from a talent standpoint, this would be a terrific swerve. I don't know the full story(s), but hopefully his head's in the right place. Classic "trust the staff" cliche.

perfect post....They know him better than me and sticking with a kid is something to be commended. Even with all his troubles Small contributed (granted not as much as we all hoped) and I'm sure he's a better man for being in the program and not quitting.

If anybody here knows Latwan better than JT and Ted Ginn, then I'd be willing to listen to their opinion about whether he deserves an offer. Otherwise, we go with the "trust the coaches" position. All other opinions seem over the line.

If the only opinions that should be voiced are those of the coaches then there's no need for a message board.

Just have a news feed and be done with it.

We have plenty of threads on recruits without comments directed at a player's character and whether that character prevents an offer. We have rules for that.

The coaching staff knows whether character is an issue... you know, since they have met Latwan and all. If they offer him, I trust they've considered it enough... regardless of the negativity here on the board.
