if it is indeed mayfield, I will posit the following:

1. it shows the browns aren't dumb enough to take josh allen
2. it shows the front office has a giant set of brass balls as this could very well be a pick that gets people fired in a few years.
3. it will be fabulous to watch all the talking heads that were fawning all over the fact that the browns brought in all these respected "football guys" like wolf and highsmith along with dorsey, shit themselves when the browns pick the analytics wet dream that is baker mayfield #1 overall.

...so you like the pick.

I'd take Mayfield over Allen, that's for sure. Frankly, I think this is a smoke screen or an attempt to drum up a trading partner, to get out of the #1 pick. Which, in my view of this draft class, isn't such a bad idea. Guess we'll know soon enough.
I think it’s more to trade out of 4, I don’t think they think Chubb will still be there

I'll be honest, and I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't HATE the idea of them taking Mayfield. I have never been high on Darnold. And while I think Rosen is probably the "safest" bet, I'm not sold that he'll be elite. I think Mayfield is a punk, but he's had to work for everything he's ever had, has the motor/drive, and despite lacking ideal size, I think he has a good enough arm and the best accuracy of the bunch.

For the record, I would be fine with Mayfield.. I have mixed emotions about trading the #4 pick to Buffalo if Chubb is still on the board. In the second round or later in the first (if they trade up), I would get a RB and CB. They need a run stuffing DT and a possible replacement for Thomas and maybe a LB later in the draft.

So how excited are Buckeye fans about the possibility of Oklahoma and Penn State as Cleveland's starting backfield?

I think they're trying to drum up the Giants a trading partner. If you set the floor on Darnold at 2 (ie, he's NOT getting past NYJ at 3, especially if you just took Mayfield)

It does a few things:

1. It leaves both Chubb and Barkley on the board at 4. So you have your pick, but, that also puts them in play for a moderate trade back for someone to take one of them. No idea who because no one cares about anything but the QB's but, for example, what if you thought you could get Ward at 9 and SF was looking to trade up for Chubb? Say the 9 and a 2nd (that you could flip to move up?). Or someone else really doesn't care about RB relative value and REALLY thinks they need Barkley. A uick glance, and looks like most of the rest of the top 10 can use an edge rusher, Broncos, Colts, 9ers, Bears... etc... so, do you bait them into pulling a Butch Davis and giving you a pile of stuff to move up a spot or 2?

Now the pick becomes attractive for more than just the QB needy teams.

2. And this is the obvious... there are "4 QB's" and well, you just made 3 of them go bye bye, and you're at 4. So, this is where the cash an prizes really start adding up if someone is willing to make the jump. Won't be the Bills, they just went to #2 probably, unless someone else just went Redskins RGIII to get there. But then you take the lowest bidder with say, Denver out of the equation (assuming someone want to risk that they aren't taking a QB - and I really don't feel like they are... )

Edit: I keep hearing from the ESPN talking faces "Why are they keeping it a secret?" Well, there's actually a lot of reasons.

Yeah, really he's my second choice, I think Darnold is the "right" choice, but who the fuck knows. I really don't like Rosen, mostly because I think he won't stay healthy.

If they're good, I don't care. If they suck its on them and the Browns.

Mayfield would be pretty similar to Tyrod, correct?

At this point, I can tolerate it. This whole draft is pretty “meh” (of course the year the tank right with two top 5’s).

Would feel better if they brought Lincoln Riley along with him.
