Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

Davis was a really good player at Clemson, but I don't think he's ready for an NFL load yet. If anything, I'd like to see them start the game with him since he's a more dynamic runner and will be better on screens and short passes, with some Harrison (if he ever plays) mixed in, and then go to Lewis more in the 2nd half when the opposing D is tired and he can plow over some guys a little easier. It's easier to run 6 yards offtackle in the 2nd half (unless you are down 21, of course), and Lewis at this stage can't do it in both halves anymore I don't think, so let's get him in there when he can do some damage and turn some other plays over to some guys who can do more with the football.

Talk about playing your cards close to the vest I guess we won't know much about the Browns until they first came against Minnesota. However, I would think with the re-signing of Braxton that Tucker is gone. I also liked McCune in the Tennessee game and they cut him loose.

With more cuts looming, Cleveland Browns won't confirm OT Ryan Tucker's departure

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns offensive lineman Ryan Tucker, who battled back from hip and knee surgeries last season to try and return for a 13th year in 2009, reportedly has been released by the team -- though his name did not appear on the list of NFL transactions today.
Hood released: The Browns released seventh-year cornerback Rod Hood, signed as a free agent in May. Hood, who started 30 games over the past two seasons for Arizona, including last season's Super Bowl, struggled in the Titans game Saturday night, giving up a 6-yard touchdown pass to Justin Gage. Hood admitted he still was adjusting to the Browns' scheme.

The Browns also released tight end Nate Jackson, a seventh-year pro, and linebacker Robert McCune, a fourth-year pro. Both were signed as free agents. They re-signed offensive lineman Branndon Braxton, a Youngstown native and a rookie out of Oklahoma.

From ESPN's rumor mill.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter gives us his list of big-name players that are facing cuts this weekend, and Jamal Lewis is No. 1 on the list.
Lewis turned 30 last Wednesday, and he's got James Davis and Jerome Harrison performing well behind him. If Lewis is cut, Davis will likely become the No. 1 immediately.

Other possible names that Schefter mentions include Ben Watson, Joey Galloway, Brian Williams, David Tyree, Michael Bennett, Matt Bryant, D.J. Hackett, Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder, Hank Baskett and Reggie Brown.
Stay tuned.
I also like how he gives a list of "big-name" players, like Brian Williams, Michael Bennett, DJ Hackett, Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder, Hank Baskett and Reggie Brown. I guess all of the names do have at least 10 letters, so maybe that's what he was talking about.

Lewis did not get cut. Surprised that David Patten got cut.

Cleveland Browns make roster moves -- Jamal Lewis and Jerome Harrison are spared

CLEVELAND -- Barring a few transactions to come, Browns coach Eric Mangini will take 22 new players into the 2009 regular season who were not with the team last year. Nine of them are rookies.

The longest shots: safety Bret Lockett and offensive lineman Corey Hilliard.

Lockett was an undrafted free agent from UCLA who earned a training camp invitation only after winning a tryout in rookie minicamp. Hilliard played five games over two seasons with the Colts and was signed by the Browns on Aug. 24.

The biggest names among the cuts were receiver David Patten, cornerback Corey Ivy, linebacker Beau Bell and fullback Charles Ali.

In perceived head-to-head battles, Brett Ratliff defeated Richard Bartel for the No. 3 quarterback job, Mike Furrey beat Patten for the veteran possession receiver role, and former Jet Hank Poteat outlasted Ivy for a backup cornerback and nickel back role.

That Vikes front 4 is nasty - especially against the run. We'll see how old man Farve is doing. I'm just interested to see how we plan on slowing down the NFL's best RB.

I would sell out to stop the run and see if Farve can throw well enough to win without TO's. Hopefully the Browns can use the screen game to slow down the Vikes rush.

Is Dequell Jackson, going to be happy and starting??
He has not said anything lately about his contract and wanting more money but that probably will come after the season is over. He played pretty well in the exhibition season and he definitely will be starting. We are still lacking at ILB. Maybe he was shadow Peterson on Sunday.

screens, misdirection, maybe some no-huddle. both the williams', especially Pat, aren't exactly fleet of foot, with Pat Willams definately slowing down the last few seasons. you can wear them down.

now, Jared Allen, just hope JT can neutralize him.

This is why Brady would be better against the Vikings, at least this week. The short - intermediate passes will take away the pass rush. Hopefully they can utilize this and the receivers can hold onto the ball

I guess last year that the Patriots threw the ball and ran the ball wide and the Williams boys were huffing and puffing and got worn down. We could do that with Cribbs, Furrey, Robo, and Davis and maybe even Harrison if he is in shape.
