Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

James Davis at it again! I really like this dude
He does look solid, but I try not to read too much into youngsters performances against 2nd and 3rd string D's in the preseason.

I thought he was criminally underused at Clemson and would make a good pro back...hope that comes to fruition.

But, anyway...

James Davis should be the #1 back from what I've seen.. I haven't seen everything, admittedly.

This team actually looks exciting right now.

I don't know if he's ready to start, but Lewis looks old as fuck and I hope Davis and/or Harrison are utilized liberally to lighten Lewis' load. At this point in his career, he looks like a short yardage back...not a 20 carry a game guy.

It's not unheard of for lower round RBs to have really good rookie years...

Yea, he was sort of forgotten after his senior year but I always really liked him.

But he isn't just doing it against 2nd and 3rd stringers if I'm remembering correctly, I think he's done well against other teams' ones too.

I think his big run last week was against...ah, hell...it was Detroit. Doesn't matter what string. Today he's getting his yards against the backups. But he is getting them.

Derek Anderson wins the Retarded Penalty of the Game Award. That was a new one from the Browns. I'm surprised they didn't save that one for the regular season. They could've pulled it out at the end of a close game.

On a more serious note, I think Davis should be the top RB. You really don't have to see much of anything to come to this conclusion. I listened to this one on Sirius. I could finish the announcer's sentence every time it started with, "Handoff to Jamal Lewis...". It was always, :...into the pile for a gain of 2." Jamal Lewis has become Lydell Ross with a rap sheet.

Also, I got a little tired of hearing on the radio how most of the good things on offense came against the second team of Tennessee. I mean, it's true - you can't look at that and say the Browns are on their way to winning eight games or anything like that. But getting first downs and scoring are what you're supposed to do against weak teams and second stringers. The frustrating thing about the Browns is that they don't even do what you're supposed to do in the NFL most of the time. So if the Browns manage to do anything this year that's not a real accomplishment but just what they're supposed to do I'll gladly take it. It would be a marked improvement if it were to occur.

well, considering cleveland only had 3 series against tennessee first string, and moved the ball well in 2 of them, i'd say some optimism is ok.

As most others, I really like Davis also but I don't think she is physically ready to start in the NFL. He needs to add a couple more pounds and get a little physically stronger so when he gets hit he can get an extra couple feet or so. That is where Lewis has the edge on him plus Davis is not that good when it comes to picking up blitzers. Lewis should be the starter and let Davis learn and get stronger this year. Not saying to keep him on the bench because he does have the breakaway speed which Lewis is lacking.

The WR cuts will be very interesting this week.
