The only other name that comes to mind would be Brad Stevens, and I can't see him going anywhere coming off a 50+ win, #1 team in East, AND #1 pick in Draft season.

Hard to believe there's not a plan in place, and replacement candidates have likely been contacted. Have a feeling Gene has his eye on his target, and this shouldn't drag out too long. This "Thad Matta situation" didn't develop because of Darius Bazely, Mark Smith, James Daniel and MJ Walker.

I do too, but Pop is a made man. He can spend the next 10 years putting up mediocre seasons, and they'll still be talking about him as one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time.

Given how seldom we do this I am all for enjoying the selection process.

Shaking my head at the timing (did GS think recruiting was going to bounce back after last season), but this is a slightly better scenario to giving him a lame duck year. Monumental screw up to not do it after the BTC and lock down Archie. If Indiana is plunger raping the rest of the Big Ten over the next few years, it might be time for GS to go too.

Something tells me The Ohio State University Athletic Department already have a short list of candidates. The announcement was today but my educated guess that lawyers from both sides have been ironing out the retirement "buyout" for weeks now. I doubt Thad came into work today and told Gene, I'm retiring effective immediately, let's have a 2:00 PM Press Conference to announce it.
