2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

With an inspiring loss to Rutgers to hopefully, mercifully conclude the 2016-2017 campaign, and no hope in sight, let's get this party started! I dub this season, "The Season of Cardboard Cut-Outs." It will look like they are out there, there just won't be any emotion, desire to win or ability. They'll just, be there...standing around...

The attrition begins...Trevor Thompson is entering the draft. So now Kaleb Wesson likely gets thrown right into the fire with no time to develop. Or, maybe Matta gives up any pretense of playing defense and goes with potter. Huzzah.

Matta could always look for a JUCO big man or a graduate transfer. One can only hope.
if thompson actually ends up not returning and because matta may see next year as the "make-or-break" season, i think matta will take a close look at the juco/transfer centers. neither potter nor funderburk is or will be a center. bell? i think lauderdale is his ceiling. in regards to wesson, i think he would have a nick ward kind of impact if only wesson showed a willingness to transform fat into muscle like the spartan has. kaleb being less flabby than a year ago isn't sufficient for high-major play. unfortunately, i have absolutely no faith whatsoever in dave richardson. he may be the worst s&c coach in all the power conferences.

anyway, i hope to be proven wrong, but i think the administration will start throwing out coaching "feelers" in about 9 months.

Considering he'll be lucky if he's drafted at all, yes. Unless you're a sure fire first rounder it makes little sense to me to leave early, unless making $25,000 to play D League ball in Maine excites you. Me? I'd rather be a Buckeye, take advantage of that scholarship and work on becoming a first rounder.

This is a fair point, but considering the recent player development and what appears to be a abomination of a S&C program. Personally I think i'd take my chances with the D League or over seas.

Wisconsin has made 19 straight NCAA tourneys and they've done it with four coaches:

Dick Bennett
Brad Soderberg
Bo Ryan
Greg Gard

What is going on in Madison that can't happen in Columbus? It's not the weather. It's not low educational standards. They've managed to compete at a high level in basketball AND football in the 21st century. Is it really too much to expect it at Ohio State? I don't think so, but I'm expecting the basketball struggles will continue into 2018. :frown:

Well, if you had ask Bo it seems like they might have women(Gard is still looking) who want to participate with the coaches up there. Better looking women in Columbus… I think
