2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

As much as I hate Nova for personal reasons, Jay Wright isn't one of those reasons. That would be a home run. Not that there's such a thing as a clean NCAA program.....especially basketball.....but you've gotta think he's one of the cleaner coaches.

Plus you'd get the added bonus of upset Nova fans, but you already knew that.:lol:

I could live with that, as long as his NBA itch has truly been scratched.
Only way I could see him wanting to make the jump again would be to join a team like the Lakers (assuming they continue to build, but underachieve). Even then, Lakers ownership has been a bit bipolar in the past with their coaches.

Buckeyes, Thad Matta parting ways after 13 seasons

Athletic director Gene Smith said a conversation between him and Matta led to the determination that a change was needed.

"I felt comfortable after the season when I sat down with Thad that we had a plan. [But] recruiting is a major part of it, and we weren't winning the recruiting battles," Smith said. "As we started talking about it Friday, the flow of the conversation took me to the realization as I said to him, 'This might be the time to make a leadership change,' and he agreed."

Honestly fuck how clean a coach is these days. If the NCAA isn't going to do shit about it, you're only hurting yourself by not cheating your ass off.

I know it was time for Matta to go but still heartbreaking to see. I wouldn't care about OSU hoops if it wasn't for him. Hope Gene can knock it out of the park as far as a new hire goes.

Somebody's screwing up his wikipedia formatting by adding Ohio State to his resume, but Donovan was pretty firmly "committed" to OKC when his name came up for the IU job.

I'd say Ohio State has the potential as a program with the right coach (as we saw in Matta's early years) to be elite, but you don't get the same significant pressure you get at an Indiana. If the money is right seems like a pretty sweet out if you want out of the NBA.

So much for Gene's "vote of confidence" on 6 Mar 17:

Thad Matta Comments On Gene Smith Issuing A Vote Of Confidence
03/09/2017
Buckeye athletic director Gene Smith released a statement on Wednesday that showed full support of head coach Thad Matta. The 13-year OSU basketball mentor gave his thoughts on Smith having to take such actions.
Entire article: http://www.scout.com/college/ohio-state/story/1761315-matta-addresses-smith-s-statement

Apparently Gene's "vote of confidence" had a 90 day expiration......:slappy:

+ the backing of Nike and their overwhelming desire to sell boat loads of Ohio State Basketball "stuff"

My big problem with Mack is that his Xavier teams have shown a pretty consistent thug streak through the years, not just an individual or two but a systemic program problem. Under the brighter spotlight at OSU combined with an administration that doesn't feel the need to look the other way for some basketball publicity, could we be looking at a Randy Ayers 2.0 type flame out?

Donovan actually left Florida twice* to coach in the NBA, do we really want him?

*he accepted an offer in 2007 to coach the Orlando Magic and then several days later backed out.
