2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

They haven't been a good "team" since 2012-13. Even the '14-15 team was just Russell and a bunch of misfit toys. The downfall began with the terrible Amir Williams class, and it's been a free fall from there. The 2015 class was all-time bad and was a dagger right to the heart of the program. It, literally, has destroyed them. It will bottom out this year when I honestly think they'll struggle to win 10 games total. That's late Ayers-era bad. The next coach is going to have a total overhaul on his hands, and I'm not just talking about the players. The culture around the program has declined so precipitously, that they have the look/attitude of a perennial B1G bottom feeder. You could see that clearly in the season ending loss to Rutgers (RUTGERS!).

I just hope old Geno has it in him to get a good young coach in here or else the next decade of tOSU basketball is going to be very, very bleak.
That's what I mean... been 5 years for me since they were watchable.

As you say the next coach (which IMO should've happen now) will have quite the mess on his hands. I'm not sure why Matta doesn't just step down when it's so clear things are beginning to turn so bad. At some point it becomes beyond repair and that point has passed.

Well, it's too late to step down at this point. This (empty) bus is already in motion. We're just going to have to deal with an awful basketball team in 2017-18 and hope that whomever is in charge of finding Matta's replacement doesn't wait until next March to start the process.

Exactly. Well we all know what's coming so it won't be a surprise when the wheels fall off week 1

I wonder what the discussions between Matta and Smith have been like the last 6 months. What has Matta been telling Smith about the state of the program and what is going on with the players? How blind can Smith actually be to what is apparent to 90% of the fan base? Was the total destruction of the program worth saving the buyout money to Smith? It is unfathomable to me that the AD of tOSU would let the program slip to this level without taking any action.

This is not good.
if you think that is not good, you should see some of the other games on their schedule. Overall years, they have one of their toughest schedules ever. UNC in New Orleans will not be pretty among others including a game in the ACC/Big Ten challenge.. There are also some teams that are pretty good in that tournament where they play Gonzaga. It will not be pretty next season..

That basically sums up the entire state of the program. Games like Gonzaga and UNC are gonna be f'ing snuff films.

Like I said earlier, I'll be surprised if they crack 10 wins, total, next season.

Their only hope to be watchable will be KBD making a huge leap, Kam actually finding a consistent shot, and Funderburke/K. Wesson somehow managing to be respectable post presences. Right now, that's asking a lot given what we've seen the last 4-5 years wrt this program's player development.

In other words, if a whole bunch of guys play a whole lot better than they have ever shown the ability to play before and everyone stays healthy we might not completely suck.

Sounds like the Reds plan every April
