2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

I guess at this point we can somehow hope Chris Mack wants a new challenge.

Do not hope too much for Mack because he just signed a new contract with the Musketeers..

Leaving Xavier now to go to Ohio State would be a step down. They're in the Big East, which routinely gets multiple bids to the NCAAs, and they don't have to compete with football to sell tickets. Thad's replacement will likely come from a good basketball school in a smaller conference, familiar with the midwest...like Dayton. :bonk:

How in the world does a program that was a consistent top-10, top-15 program for the better part of a decade completely implode like this? It's simply astonishing.

I'm really waiting to see what Kam Williams decides to do, not that it'll have much of a W-L impact but it'll say even more about this situation.

I can't even think of what's going on.....did Thad tell the team this is his last year? For this windfall to occur it seems like there must have been an event to kickstart this domino.

Ohio State sports are the number one generator of revenue out of every university in America; that's how Gene has kept his job. We passed Texas under his watch. Kind of hard to fire Gene with Urban on board, not to mention the numerous championships in other sports. Matta, on the other hand....poor guy.

I definitely realize that is why, but I have always contended that the athletics as a whole have succeeded despite Gene, not because of him. The trustees and major boosters purposefully kept Gene out of the majority of negotiations to get Urban here for fear that he would dick that up too. Once UFM was here, he just had to stay out of the way and let him do his thing.

I mean who are we going to hire? There's no one with a big time pedigree that's going to come to our school. Not like football were every coach would beat the door down for the job.

Total rebuild, not a traditional basketball school, no game day atmosphere, and not much current talent doesn't leave me hopeful that we can get someone to OSU who can do the job

While I absolutely hate that we missed on Miller, I do think that we can find a solid coach to come in and take on this task. tOSU is a place that has drawn top talent in the past and can do so again. Game day atmosphere comes when a team plays with passion and effort on a consistent basis. It also helps when you ring the floor with students.

Those same concerns, plus the looming fallout from the O-B stuff were here when Matta took the job, and that was widely seen as an A+ hire. tOSU has the resources to find a good coach. We'll see it old Geno can do it.

A young talented coach looking for some money and an opportunity. There are tons of candidates, just not big name candidates.

Not just Kam, but what are Tate and Bates-Diop thinking? They have been through a lot and next year is their last chance. At the end of this season there was still an opportunity to make next year a statement year. Now? How do you motivate this team? What single positive thing has happened for this team in over a year?

JIMMY JENT LEAVES OHIO STATE BASKETBALL TO FOCUS ON ACADEMICS

82318_h.jpg,qitok=LX4vLh4f.pagespeed.ce.rzOXNk9fDw.jpg

Jent, who played last season on scholarship due to an open roster spot, averaged .8 points in 2.5 minutes per game in 2016-17.

Entire article: http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-...s-ohio-state-basketball-to-focus-on-academics

No real loss here; however, it sure would be nice to have 10 players so they could have 5 on 5 scrimmages during their practices....

C'mon now, counting Kam and Joey Lane, we have exactly ten roster-spots filled! Official site has us as

G's: CJ Jackson, Kameron Williams, Joey Lane, Braxton Beverly

F's: Jae'Sean Tate, Derek Funderburk, Andre Wesson, Keita Bates-Diop

F-C's: Micah Potter, Kaleb Wesson

No offense to our guys, but that's the weakest looking roster of guards I've ever seen at tOSU. None of them should be starting in the B1G next year.
