Jeff Hafley (DC Green Bay Packers)

Jeff Hafley's insight into NFL allure offers insight into unconventional Boston College departure

"Everything has changed," Hafley said in his interview with Breneman. "You know, we were talking earlier, I was in the NFL, I was working for the [San Francisco 49ers], we were on the verge of — you know Kyle (Shanahan) was doing a great job out there. Suddenly I had a chance to leave and go be the coordinator at Ohio State. At the time a lot of people thought I was crazy, but I missed college football. I missed the relationships and the development of those young players. Getting a guy from his freshman year, getting to know him and really develop him. Get him his degree and then have that life-long relationship."

"So we decided to make the move. Had success, got the job here," Hafley continued. "And then as soon as I get [to Boston College], COVID hits. That made it harder. So I get to know the team on Zoom. And then NIL hits and the transfer portal hits. So it all really did change. I feel like every year something's coming. Even with the portal and NIL, I feel like this was the year where it was even, I mean, it was light year's different than even last year. The game has changed so much. ... If you had told me when I came back that we'd be paying players, that they could transfer essentially, not once now, but possibly twice, I would have said, 'Yeah right, there's no chance.' But it's real and it's crazy."

There's some irony here. Hafley stayed for just 1 year.
He's upset players can move like he does.
I don't think he's stayed 4 years at a job ... ever ?

2025 OH WR Quintin Simmons (Kentucky Signee)

UK bound. Wish he would’ve stayed home and went to UC, but this is a Vince Marrow special. Saw him at multiple Withrow games last year, and he was also able to get the 4star S from Withrow in ‘24(Nichols).
But honestly, Simmons isn’t at the level of talent that Hartline is set to bring in, and has been bringing to the WR room. Youll hear this a lot this cycle, but in any other year he may have earned an offer in camp. Simmons wasn’t even given an offer, that’s how good 2025 can be!

Indiana at Ohio State, Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 7 PM ET, Peacock

I was a freshman during 1992-93 academic year and that team (first one after JJ left) was fun. Lots of young players that we thought would help reload - Derek Anderson, Greg Simpson, a couple of others I can't remember. I think Dick Vitale's favorite player Lawrence Funderburke was the senior. They beat #1 Indiana at home. Too many losses on the year and went to the NIT where I think they lost to Miami(OH) in first round. Downhill after that.

High School Bowl Games

Great idea, the game was gotten less appealing with early enrollees not playing in it. I was thinking when Sanchez announced it would have been cool to see him play in the game, he certainly has the talent to compete with the seniors there.
It'll be interesting seeing juniors get possibly 2 years of AA film to go with their HS highlights.

Lawsuits...Only In America

And a salary plan that was approved by shareholders with Elon and his brother not voting their shares.

The issue is numerous other conflicts of interest on the board, paired with a massive package that has no comparison on the open market... it's a valid concern.
It's pretty rare for Delaware to side with the little guy; it's exactly why it's such a popular place for businesses to incorporate.

Ohio State at Iowa, Friday, 2 February 2024, 7 PM ET, FS1

Really tough loss. Would assume most teams practice the breakaways from offensive perspective, versus the defensive. I very well know that a 2 on one break, if executed even half correctly, spells doom for the defensive guy, but you gotta make it tough nonetheless. Defensive discipline seems to always be with the other teams, and not the Buckeyes. Other than isos, most teams run the same offensive set, with an outside weave, trying to work the ball in closer for a dash to the basket, or a stop and pop. Other teams seem to work the switches, pick-n-rolls, from a defensive perspective better than tOSU. Even from drifting back to play D when our shot goes up, forgoing any chance for a rebound. Would assume that tOSU has an assistant coach that handles defensive training. Also notice when the game gets tight, our players pass the ball off, rather than looking for their shot. Seem more scared to shoot and miss than confident they're going to make it. Yeah, we're young, but remember, these kids have been playing the game - at high levels- since they were 6 years old.
